No Asterisk For This Championship

mindi greenJan 12, 2010

Did ya'll catch that article written by some bonehead with internet accessibility, God save us, that in essence said Yay for Alabama!

They have their 13th national championship BUT only because Colt McCoy got knocked out of the game.Ā

So he put an asterisk by the number 13.Ā  I hate him already.Ā

Mack Brown and Colt alluded to the same thing.Ā

But, and this is MY but here, I have done some reading and some serious thinking and even though I may have hurt myself, I have come up with this.Ā

What this bonehead, Mack Brown, Colt McCoy and TX fans need to consider in their world of IF isĀ IF there had been a healthy Sam Bradford OK would have made a mess outta TX and maybe then Alabama would have met OK for the NC.Ā

Things that make you go hmmmm.Ā

Regardless of the opponent Alabama would have played for the NC.Ā  This is a team that had one of the toughest schedules in the nation.Ā  A tough SEC schedule with Virginia Tech, Florida and Texas thrown in for fun. And remained undefeated.Ā

Why the doubt?

Why the asterisk?

In regard to Colt McCoy I hated to see him hurt.Ā

As bad as I wanted Alabama to win I would never wish a injury on a player.Ā  It could have ended his career.Ā  See Tyrone Prothro.Ā

If TX was so concerned about beating Alabama they should have prepared Gilbert better instead of running up the score at every given chance and raising McCoy's stats.Ā

Bully for him, fat a lot of good it does when he ain't on the field.Ā  I have even read that the injury to him was intentional.Ā

You know what? This is NCAA football Ā if you don't want to get hurt stay on the porch.Ā  But give credit where it's due.Ā

Texas didn't give up and I didn't expect them to.Ā  That would have been disappointing.Ā  But this Alabama team stepped up and made the plays.Ā  It wasn't always nice and neat but they finished.Ā

I don't believe national championships are given away.Ā  They are earned.Ā  This team did that too.Ā

At spring training, during the brutal two-a-days in the summer and the blood, sweat and tears during this season. But most of all on Jan. 7, 2010 in Pasadena CA.Ā  They earned it.

There is no need for an asterisk at the end of this championship at all.Ā

And no doubt.
