Maryland Terps Big Three Combine for 52 In ACC Win
The Maryland Terps big three Greivis Vasquez, Eric Hayes and Landon Milbourne combined for 52 points, to lead the Terps to their first ACC victory of the season, 77-68, over the 18th ranked Florida State Seminoles.
The three seniors cames to Maryland together and it will take all of their skill and experience this season for the Terps to finish near the top of the ACC. With a combination of Sean Mosley and the play of freshman Jordan Williams the Terps may do just that. The bench play of Cliff Tucker, Adrian Bowie and James Padgett has been great.
The Terps had a near perfect first half, against the nations leading defensive field goal percentage squad. Milbourne and Hayes led the charge for Maryland with 11 each, as the Terps took a 41-27 half time lead into the lockeroom.
In the second half the Seminoles actually outscored the Terps, 41-26. Vasquez scored 17 of his 22 in the second half. For the game, Cliff Tucker and Mosley had 8 and 6 points, respectively. Hayes was 5 for 6 from the 3 point line. The Terps out rebounded their opponents, 40-34, as Mibourne and Williams pulled down 7 rebounds each.
The difference in the games was the Terps shooting of the Terps from the 3 point line, as they finished with 10-6 advantage over the Seminoles.
Florida State got 17 from Solomon Alabi, 15 from Deividas Dulkys and Chris Singleton added 12. The loss halted a 7 game winning streak by Seminoles.
Maryland is now 10-4 and 1-0 in the ACC, while the Florida State is 13-3 and 1-1 in conference play.
Coach Gary William will next take the Terps on the road to face Wake Forest on Tuesday.
