The Germans invented a word for it and I think its called Schadenfreude, its definition, 'pleasure derived from the misfortune of others' which I think describes my feelings clinically when I see the Glazers beg like peasants.
In May 2005, like many others I deeply opposed the Glazer takeover. I'd reluctantly accepted the transition from a sport to a business, I became accustomed to words like leveraged, PLC, Shareholders and nostalgically bemoaned the removal of football club from Manchester United's badge. The club was changing from the theatre of dreams to theatre of liens and just when I thought it couldn't get any worse, along came a family from Florida who made the stuff of hysterical nightmares a reality.
The hyperbole that followed saw the detractors, quite rightly say ''enough was enough" the apologists would argue, "its xenophobic brits just doing some Yankee bashing or they would argue that the banks would never lend that kind of money unless they knew what they where doing" we now know justification attempts to be a waste of oxygen.
For those that struggle with the morality of it all, I'll metaphorically explain. Imagine I break into your home tonight, I steal all you own then charge you 15% on top of its resale value just to get it back. The Glazers exploited what Sir Matt had built, what the babes had done, what Best, Law, Charlton, Crerand, Whiteside, Robson, Cantona had all given to Manchester United, they stole it like a thief in the night. It all belongs to the banks and as long as the supporters keep on paying they'll end up buying this great club for these cretinous owners or they will leave having lined their pockets off the back of United greats, some who died for the shirt.
The Glazers and Gill are on a national roadshaw, whoring Manchester United to anyone with cash. How you got it don't matter, who you are don't matter and what your interests are don't matter. They stand there and offer Old Trafford and Carrington as security in the event they can't pay and then you wonder, how do they get away with it?
When people say things like "all business have debt" am I supposed to be grateful that the Glazers risked United's assets to pay there bills? Or when people say they support the club no matter what. Yeah, its you, the astonishingly gullible that they want at Old Trafford. Its you who thinks that we should be grateful because of the success we've had under the Glazers forgetting to realize it was achieved with assets that where accrued before there arrival that they are so desperate to strip us off.
The picture above is a picture of Evil, a man who evicted his own mother whilst charging dead broke families a premium for having the audacity to let their children live in the same trailer as their parents. Glazer, Gillet, Hicks have raped national institutions for what end game I don't know. I've never much cared for Rafael Bentiez but at least, unlike Ferguson he tells the fans the truth.
How this ends, I don't know. All I ask for is not to laugh for whatever heinous precedents these swindlers set, it might be your club that follows suit.
