Season Recap: The Northwestern Wildcats

Pedro GonzalezJan 10, 2010

It's incredible how fast the college football season ends, but this it. The last game has been played, so it's time for the 09 season recap of the Northwestern Wildcats football team.

September 5: vs. Towson (WIN) 47-14

Sure it was against a FBS team but the season opener showed a promising season ahead.

September 12: vs. Eastern Michigan (Win) 27-24

The Eagles had a comeback coming, but Stefan Demos made a field goal on the whining seconds.

September 19: @ Syracuse (Lost) 34-37

NU was the favorite coming in but Syracuse scored points early, sure NU was one field goal away of going into OT, but still this was Syracuse game all day.

September 26: vs. Minnesota (Lost) 24-35

Losing the conference opener was disappointing, they had now a 2 game losing-streak . At this point I was pretty sure they would finish 6-6 at best.

October 3: @ Purdue (Won) 27-21

Their first conference win and it came with a great comeback game, making 24 unanswered points.

October 10: vs. Miami (OH) (Won) 16-6

This was a great defensive game by the Wildcats D' but, I was expecting nothing else than a W out of this game.

October 17: @ Michigan St. (Lost) 14-24

I was hoping they somehow would win but the defense couldn't contain the Spartans WR B. White.

October 24: vs. Indiana (Won) 29-28

The BIGGEST comeback from the Cardiac Cats history.Enough said.

October 31: vs. #12 Penn St. (Lost) 13-34

I think every body knew they would lose this game. Right now my prediction is becoming pretty much reality, their 5-4 and they'll probably lose against Iowa and Wisconsin.

November 7: @ #4 Iowa (Won) 17-10

A huge upset and momentum boost for the Wildcats. 9 teams had played Iowa that season before NU none won against them, that's all I can say.

November 14: @ Illinois (Won) 21-16

Second straight year NU win against it's rival Illinois, taking The Land of Lincoln trophy, after the Tomahawk was retired last year.

November 21: vs. #26 Wisconsin (Won) 33-31

Great way to finish the regular season a thrilling game that would put the Wildcats on the Outback Bowl. I was ashamed I ever doubted this team... How can I call me a true fan? When I couldn't even trust this talented group.

January 1: vs Auburn Tigers (Lost) 35-38

Great games with great plays, I had a feeling NU would win but destiny didn't NU to win this one hopefully, the next year will be the year they win or the first time a bowl since 1949.

This are the MVP's of the season:

Offensive: Andrew Brewer... 57 Rec...925...9 TD

Andrew came up big whenever he was asked to, he didn't have as many receptions as Zeke Markshausen (91) but had more yards per reception (16.5) and 6 more   touchdowns than Markshausen.

Defensive: Brad Phillips...85 Tak...4 Forced Fumbles...1 Int

Named All-Big Ten First Team, the best player on both sides of the ball and one of the team leaders. This young man lead the team in tackles this season and made some good plays.

Another year is on the record books. I can't wait till next season...Go Wildcats!!!.
