Young Stars Of The WWE

Chamberlain HallerJan 8, 2010

Welcome to my first article, Young Stars of the WWE. Catchy name huh? I'll be taking a look at some of the young talent of the WWE. Unfortunately for the most part, these are guys that they don't utelize to their full potential. Now for a little explanation. When I say young, I don't necessarily mean young as in and age. I'll be looking at guys that are young in the company, guys that have never been to the main event, or have been there for a short time. Pretty much I'll make the call. Also, I'm not trying to toot my own horn and say, "this is the way it is." It's just an opinion. Ok, on to the article.

Dolph Ziggler

Dolph Ziggler looks like a guy with a lot of potential to be a top guy in the business. However, WWE seems to have soured on him lately. I don't know who Ziggler pissed off backstage, but it looks like he did something wrong because they had him lose like what, at least 5 pay per view Intercontinental title matches in a row without giving him the title. I think he has a good look and good gimmick. He had a decent little push, but it seems to have stopped now. Hard to tell where he will go from here, seeing as how he's stuck in the horrible SmackDown midcard with the likes of Matt Hardy, R-Truth, Finlay, etc.

Shelton Benjamin

Ah yes, Shelton Benjamin. I know he's been with the company for years now, but he has so much potential and in-ring ability, I couldn't ignore him. He's had plenty of gimmicks that bombed and been in tag teams. Anyone remember the momma gimmick? Terrible. When they drafted him to SmackDown and repackaged him as the "Gold Standard," I thought we were finally seeing the uprising of Benjamin, but no. He was doomed to ECW. (Although he has had some damn good matches there.) Either way, he's still in ECW and as of this writing, is in the ECW title picture, but who knows. The man has been in the company for a long time now, and if a big push hasn't happened now, it may never happen. I don't know why, maybe his promos are too dry for the WWE. Maybe he doesn't have the look. One thing is for sure though, this guy can definately perform.

Evan Bourne

If you want to see some exciting in-ring action, watch an Evan Bourne match. He can fly. The logical mind would say that when Rey Mysterio has run his course with the WWE, Bourne would get a push and step into the "Litte Man, Big Heart" role. But of course, we all know that Vince love his big men. On the mic, Bourne is mediocre at best, but that can be worked out. Problem is, he never gets the chance to perfect his mic skills. He never cuts promos and loses ALL THE TIME. Could be because he sells moves so good, which he does. Either way, I look forward to seeing A LOT more from Evan Bourne in the future.

Drew McIntyre

This Scottish dude has a lot of promise in the WWE. Drew McIntyre got the Intercontinental title in his first shot, proving that the company is behind this guy. The paper reads that Triple H and Shawn Michaels are really drinking this guy's Kool-Aid. Apparently they like his physique and look and all. I'm not as big a fan as I am of guys like Bourne and Ziggler, but I'm not going to complain if this guy becomes a main eventer. And with HHH and HBK behind the guy, that could be sooner rather than later.

     MVP

When this guy was first coming up in the company, I really thought he was gonna be a main eventer. But eventually he got that losing streak on SmackDown, and when he got drafted to RAW, he got a bit of a U.S tite push, but has recently fallen into oblivion. Another case of a guy getting buried halfway into a push. Tragic. Right now he's teaming with Mark Henry and showing no signs of advancing into the big time.

                                                   The Miz

In the ring, Miz is decent to me. However, cutting promos is his cup of tea. He is very convicted in his words which makes you believe what he says. His finisher is week, but that can always be fixed. As of this writing, he is the U.S. champion, but has not even had a proper feud. Feuds are how talent is built. In the main event, you never see the champion go without a rival for two months like The Miz has. WWE needs to put the young talent in feuds, so they can test the waters and see who can carry feuds. Either way, WWE has always seemed to trust Miz in generating heel heat, so you can expect to see him in the U.S. title picture for another year or so, then move along to the big time. How does The Miz vs. John Morrison for the WWE Championship a few years down the road sound?

                                             John Morrison

No one that I am writing about today is more ready to be a World Champion than Morrison. He is really coming alive as a face and his electrifying offense fits well with his character. He really has the look and charisma. He is somewhat weak on the mic, but that can be worked around. If Morrison doesn't have a World title in 2010, WWE has dropped the ball once more.

Ted DiBiase

This young gun has had a pretty good run with Cody Rhodes & Randy Orton in Legacy, but I think that that stable has played the roll that it needed to. Even though they had that useless fued with DX where they got stuck in the midcard RIGHT where they were before. Like i said, that stable has run it's course, and it's time that DiBiase start his singles career (probably as a face.) More than likely he will probably have a match with Orton at 'Mania, and he should get boosted to the top sooner rather than later.

                                                Cody Rhodes

Cody Rhodes improve 10 fold in 2009 in ring, on the mic, alltogether. At first to me, DiBiase looked lik the main guy to get a push out of Legacy, but Cody Rhodes improved all around, probably working close with Orton, and has potenial. I think he would be better suited as a face, mostly due to his size. Look for this guy to be in the main event in 2011-2012, as long as he doesn't piss Triple H off or something.

                                                   Sheamus

No one has got a bigger, stronger push in WWE in recent years than Sheamus. Of course, winning the WWE Championship is pretty good way to push a new Superstar. My main gripe is that the WWE always seems to be worried to push young talent because they may not be able to carry the weight of the company, however, this guy, who has been on TV for about 5 months, gets pushed straight to the top when he buddies up to Triple H. Either way, I am certainly not sad to see a new top heel, although I do miss the Cena - Orton matches (not.) Sheamus is a monster heel that I love to watch, and always look forward to seeing his character develop. They have done all the right things to protect Sheamus and he should be a top guy for years to come, I hope.

                                               Jack Swagger

Swagger definately reminds me of Kurt Angle. I love watching the powerful, amertuer style. It reeeeeally gets over IMO. However, Vince seems to dislike him for one reason or another. He seemed like a guy with more talent and potential than any young gun in the company, and deserved a push more than Sheamus. But right now, he is a Chavo-like laughing stock. I don't know why because he is sooo talented and generates sooo much heat. Vinth thurely hates the lithp or thomthing.

                                                 Mike Knox

Not much to say about Knox. I like his finisher. I also like the cross-body that the big man does. Other than that, he doesn't do much for me. His scientific gimmick is kinda cool, but he's not that appealing for me. I don't know what it is. He's fine where he is for me. Please don't push him.

                                               Kofi Kingston

When Kofi hit Randy Orton with The Boom Drop through the table at MSG, we witnessed a rebirth. He dropped the Jamaican accent, and got a bit more serious. Kudos to Randy Orton for helping build this talent. However, notice how his push has slowed down lately? Apparently no one bought Survivor Series and backstage wants to blame it on team Kofi going over team Orton. I'll tell you why the PPV bombed. The main fued revolved around HORNSWOGGLE. I hope this guy wins the Money in the Bank match, although, with this news that seems uncertain. Maybe Morrison then. I'd be cool with that. Either way, Kofi got screwed and I hope to see him get what he deserves, a main event spot. And no, Hornswoggle will not be included in this article.

                                                  Christian

Now I know that Christian is not young with the company, nor young in age, but I had to include him. Why? Because Christian is the best performer in the company that is not in the main event. He is called Captain Charisma for a reason. He has tons of charisma. He can play and excellent heel as well. The guy works well in the ring and on the mic. For some reason, though, Vince doesn't view him as a top guy. Why? No clue. One thing I do know. Not having Christian in an upper-level fued (at least) is a huge mistake.

What should be taken away from this article? The WWE is filled with fresh talent, ready to take the spots of people like The Undertaker, Triple H, Shawn Michaels, Batista, The Big Show, Chis Jericho, etc. All guys who are on the downside of their careers. What happens if the company keeps rejecting young talent for nitpicky reasons? Well, they learn the hard way, and have to force young guys straight to the top with no character development or experience. At least they will get there. The talent is there, the execution is unfortunately not. Yet.
