Is Sol Campbell Needed at Arsenal or Should Arsene Wenger Keep Senderos?
Rumor has it that Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is on the verge of doing something he has never done as Arsenal manager, resign a player.
Former Arsenal center half Sol Campbell is set to receive an offer to rejoin the Gunners until the end of the season provided the Frenchman is able to sell Philippe Senderos.Ā
Senderos has been out of favour at the Gunners since returning from his loan spell at AC Milan. The Swiss defender has appeared just once for the Gunners this season and rumour has it the 24-year-old will be leaving the Emirates during the January transfer window.
If Senderos is sold then Wenger willĀ immediately offer Campbell a deal. The Englishman appeared 135 times during his five-year stint with the North London side. During that spell between 2001 and 2006 the 35-year-old won numerous trophies and international call ups.
Campbell has been training with the Gunners and his efforts in training have caught Wenger's eye.
Campbell is a strong, physical player who has good height. Campbell is solid in the air and his height allows him to be a great asset when defending and attacking set plays. However, the former Spurs center half is 35 and has not played competitive football in almost five months.
However thanks to his age, the former Portsmouth captain would provide an able back up to William Gallas and Thomas Vermaelen. Campbell would also be a strong leader and able to mentor the younger members of Arsenal youthful squad.
But is selling Philippe Senderos for Campbell. Although the Swiss has lacked quality playing time, he is still a talented defended who has performed strongly over the years.Ā
