Fans all over Chicago were calling for Lovie Smith's job after the season. If they weren't calling for Vinnie Del Negro's job then they were calling for Lovie's job. The bears had a disappointing season going 7-9, but I don't think it was as bad as bear fans thought. The Chicago bears were in every game except to defeats during the middle of the season to two teams that won their respective divisions. The Bears players played their heart out all season and one of the reasons is that enjoy the coach they play under. The Bears could of easily been 10-6 or 11-5 this year if they had a few breaks. The tough loss to the San Francisco 49 ers was tough to swallow. There were several games this year the Bears were so close to winning and lets not forget how difficult this schedule was for the Bears. it was brutal with them up against playoff teams week to week.
The Chicago Bears easily defeated the weak teams on their schedule as they should. there was just injuries and tough luck during the season that you could not blame on the head coach. I am confident that Lovie could easily reverse the Chicago bears fortunes in one year with the club as it currently exists. If you brought in a new coach unfamiliar to the players on the team it would result in a rebuilding process . That could take a couple of more years to make the playoffs. This team is probably the strongest and most competitive 7-9 team in NFL history and there have been worse teams with worse records making it to the Super Bowl following a disappointing year like this. lets see Lovie as what he is and that is a very strong minded great coach respected by his players. The fans need to respect him some more as time must of made them forget him getting the bears in the Super Bowl. Something they have only been able to do once in their eighty year old history. The Bears organization did a good thing in firing a bunch of other coaches and not this man.
