Boston Bruin Goaltender Tim Thomas Named To USA Olympic Team
Boston Bruin goaltender, Tim Thomas, has been named to the USA Olympic Hockey Team.
Ryan Miller of the Buffalo Sabres and Johnathon Quick of the Los Angeles Kings round out the net-minding corps for the Olympic squad.
Thomas, a native of Flint, Michigan, has been a member of the USA National team in past years, 1994-1998, and played on the Men's select team in 1993-94 and 1995-96.
Thomas has racked up considerable experience and success in the ECAC, IHL and Finnish National League. He played his college hockey at the University of Vermont from 1993-97.
The Quebec Nordiques selected Thomas in the ninth round of the 1994 NHL Entry Draft as the 217th overall pick.
The Bruin net-minder won the Vezina Trophy in the 2008-09 season and led the Bruins to the Eastern Conference semi-finals against the Carolina Hurricanes. The 'Canes defeated the Bruins in the series, four games to three.
Thomas is tied for third most shut-outs in the NHL, with four. Thomas is among league leaders in save percentage with a mark of .920, and boasts an 11-9 record. He is 11th in the NHL with a 2.36 GAA.
Along with his recent NHL success, Thomas has received first and second team honors in the ECAC in 1994-96 and 1995-96. Thomas was a Titan East First team All-American in 1995-96.
The Bruins are 41-21-13-7, and are in second place in the Northeast Division with 49 points.
