Seneca Wallace or Matt Hasselbeck?

Seneca Wallace or Matt Hasselbeck?

There has been a lot of discussion about who is the better Quarterback and a lot of people say Hasselbeck by far. That could be very true, but judging from what I’ve seen from Seneca Wallace those people are just ignorant haters. Seneca Wallace makes mistakes, like every Quarterback does. But every time Seneca’s leading the Seahawks offense, he’ll get more blame then what Hasselbeck every does. I believe that’s because Hasselbeck has so much history and the fans love him while Wallace hasn’t had a chance to prove himself because the offense of Seattle has been non-existent and they haven’t been a good team over the last two years.Ā  Here is the criticism I hear all the time about Seneca Wallace:

1) He cannot win games.

2) He cannot see over the offensive line.

3) He has bad accuracy.

Okay, let’s start with number one. He cannot win games? Hmm, okay fair enough but may I remind you he is part of the Seattle Seahawks! Hasselbeck started the majority of this season and still had only one more win then last year’s team run by Seneca Wallace mostly. The Seahawks have had the same problems over the last two years with a poor offensive line, weak pass rush, etc. How is it Seneca Wallace’s fault they lose games? He did pretty good filling in for the legendary Matt Hasselbeck last season. He finished the season strongly with 1532 yards, 11 touchdowns and only 3 interceptions. The Win-Loss-Draw record is none of his fault quite frankly. It’s the team’s fault.

Now as for him not being able to see over the offensive line? That’s laughable. Sure, he’s small, not a very big Quarterback but I’ve never seen him have difficulty seeing over the offensive line. He scrambles out of the pocket most of the time anyways so that’s just absurd.

Finally, as for his accuracy; yes, it is all a little shaky. Wallace makes mistakes, but so does Matt Hasselbeck (just most recently in week 17 against the Titans where he threw an interception to a Titans linebacker on the final drive, losing the Seahawks the game). As I was saying, Wallace’s accuracy isn’t great but he brings a whole other dimension to his game to make him just as lethal and make up for his accuracy. His mobility. He is always a threat to go on the run, has excellent break out speed and the only Quarterback’s who could give him a run for his money in a foot race in the NFL is probably Mike Vick, Vince Young and maybe that young Buccaneers lad, Josh Johnson.

All in all, I’m not saying Seneca Wallace is better then Matt Hasselbeck, or he should even be the starting QB, all though it wouldn’t hurt to let him start a few more games with a rebuilt offensive line which Seattle hopefully gets in the off-season. I still think Wallace is a unique and talented player with the right Offensive Coordinators and right players around him could be used greatly in trick play’s that ACTUALLY WORK and even become a better QB over time. I’d just like to shed some light on Seneca and hope people stop criticizing him and give him more of a chance.

Also, I’d like to thank anyone who took the time to read this. Please leave a comment.
