Fact: Fernando Torres Doesn't Want To Be Anywhere Else
It's funny how "experts" out there still make laughable assumptions—that Fernando Torres will be unhappy if Liverpool fail to qualify for Champions League next season.
When Liverpool ended last season without a trophy, the "experts" thought that Torres would become frustrated for not winning anything at club level, and hence, would want a move elsewhere.
The Spanish striker responded by stating that he wants to win trophies with Liverpool, and that big money won't tempt him away from the club.
As if the statement from the player himself wasn't enough, all the buzz has come back as the season reaches its halfway.
Following Liverpool's premature exit in the Champions League, many "experts" suggested that Torres would be unhappy for not being able to play in the Champions League and would be seeking an exit from Liverpool.
The buzz became louder by days as Liverpool slipped down the league table since November.
Some people have ruled out Liverpool's chances of finishing in the top four and again, Fernando Torres is said to be wanting a move away should Liverpool fail to finish in the top four come the end of the season.
Manchester City and AC Milan have both been rumoured with a bid to buy Fernando Torres from Liverpool.
It's nothing new really, Fernando Torres is a top player and obviously big teams want to have him in their squads.
Torres had just signed a contract extension last summer that will keep him at the club until 2013, with an option to extend for another year. So the big question is, does the club want to sell him?
The answer is clear, Liverpool will never want to lose their star striker, the man capable of scoring many crucial goals and winning countless games for Liverpool.
Despite being in a "not-so-good" financial situation, chances are Liverpool will offload other players and not Fernando Torres or even Steven Gerrard, if they really do come to a stage where they need to sell players to reduce their so-called heavy debts.
And another questions people should ask is does Fernando Torres want to leave Liverpool?
I've read his recent interviews (both conducted after Liverpool's exit from Champions League and when Liverpool were outside top four spots) and he doesn't seem unhappy and wanting an exit at all, not even a bit.
"I really feel at home here. From the first day I came right up until today I have felt that Anfield is my home. I feel like I am from Liverpool."
That was the first thing Fernando Torres said in one of his two latest interviews.
He was then asked a series of questions about his personal life, and here are some of his answers.
"For me, Anfield is the best place in England but when I am with my family we normally go to the city centre. We like to have a walk along the Albert Dock, watching the docks and chatting to people. It's very nice to have the people recognise me and they always seem to have good words for me. They ask me things about Liverpool and about myself."
"Yes, the people here are very different. In Madrid the people don't have as much respect for players. You can't do the things normal people do. But here people are very respectful of players away from the pitch. I can go to the supermarket, I can go for a drink anywhere. The quality of life here for me is much better because I can do everything I want. I am a normal person here. I can go for a walk along the beach or up to Formby. Every place I go I can act normally."
Clearly he enjoys life at Liverpool!
"I think so. Some of my teammates have kids and they speak with a strong Scouse accent. I hope to be here for a long time and if my daughter speaks English and Scouse, I will be proud."
Oh, so Torres wants out?
Torres summed up his interview by saying: "I would like to be remembered as a player who won trophies for Liverpool. I have plenty of years here, I am sure about that, and I hope the trophies will come soon."
Let me remind you again that this interview was conducted after Liverpool's exit from this season's Champions League, and when Liverpool were in mid-table.
Two weeks later, Torres voiced out again ahead of the Wigan encounter, clearly frustrated that people don't seem to understand that he wants to stay.
"Right now I don't see myself playing elsewhere," declared Torres on his official website.
"I still have four years left on my contract and my future is here, it's not linked to Rafa's, but I hope that we can see out our contracts here together."
Is Fernando Torres even close to leaving Liverpool? You tell me.
I'm more worried about wet socks not being able to dry in the desert!
