A Look Back at Boxing in 2009 and a Look Forward to 2010
First and foremost Happy New Year to all boxing fans. 2009 was great on so many levels with the sport’s number one fighter Manny Pacquiao winning over the masses and even casual/ignorant fans. Pacquiao had great big wins over Ricky Hatton and Miguel Cotto that woke up the general public.
Then of course we had the former American undefeated pound for pound champion Floyd Mayweather Jr make a big one sided dominating return with his fight with Juan Manuel Marquez. The super middle weight tournament kicked off and got much of the world excited about the top fighters at 168.

Vitali Klitschko came back and fought three times in 2009 defending his belt like a true champion should. Two against undefeated top American contenders: Arreola, and Johnson.
David Haye won a big win over Nicolay Valuev, making himself a heavyweight champion as well and making some waves and interest in the heavyweight division once again. These were all just some of the big significant fights that took place in 2009 that will have further results in future meaningful fights in 2010.
Of course the biggest fight of our lifetime: Manny Pacquiao vs Floyd Mayweather Jr has such a buzz that even people who hate boxing will indeed fork over the $50 bucks to watch this “can’t miss” PPV fight that will eventually happen in 2010.
The super middle weight tournament will carry on in 2010 and will crown a number one super middleweight unified champion that will win the respect and recognition from all over the world.
Any fight with new heavyweight champion David Haye vs either Klitschko brother or top heavyweight contender will indeed provide a legitimate exciting heavyweight title fight in 2010.
The most feared man in boxing, Paul Williams, will indeed fight on and take on new exciting action fights at either at: 147, 154, and 160 in 2010.
True warriors Rafael Marquez and Israel Vasquez will fight for yet again a fourth time in their brutal all action, life and death saga on May 22, 2010 at Staples Center.
Pound for pound fighter Nonito Donaire will hopefully rematch the biggest name of his career once again Vic Darchinyan in 2010.
Knock out artist Edwin Valero will hopefully clear up his medical requirements and visa issues to fight in the United States against meaningful opposition in 2010.
Sugar Shane Mosley and Andre Berto are going to get in on January 30 in what will hopefully be the start of a true unification at 147.
So in all 2010 already looks like it will be a great year and it appears we are already off to a great promising start.
As the Bleacher Report Boxing Community Leader, I would like to encourage everyone reading this to write more and more from your heart. Whether it’s something you need to get off your chest about boxing or if it’s just something deep inside that you feel will indeed go down.
The boxing community is growing and evolving every day thanks to you. I see the featured columnists, the top five writers all the way down to the up and coming writers, we are what we are today because we all have a love for this sport.
Just like a great equal sparring partner who pushes you to fight and spar even harder and better, we as a community have begun to do that as well with our writing and I am very proud of everyone.
I also would like to start doing some video blogs, or vlogs, about upcoming super mega fights, predictions, expert analysis, etc. If anyone is interested in this please let me know as soon as possible. I already have a decent significant following on YouTube and it would be my honor to have my Bleacher Report family join me in taking the vlogs to a whole other level.
So once again Happy New Years. Just as the greatest of all time, Muhammad Ali, I busted some Ali like performance earlier tonight at a New Years party, and I’m going to have to look at these pictures for seeing is believing ha ha wink wink. So whatever it is you do. If it’s in training, work, writing or even chasing girls, be the greatest of all time at what you do that’s my motto and that’s how I roll and so should you.
GOD Bless,
Happy 2010,
KING J
