Baseball seasons past and present provide fans with an almost unlimited armory to tackle some of the greatest questions the sport has ever known.

Who was the greatest Yankee of all-time? Is Carlos Beltran better than Darryl Strawberry? Did Joe Torre have the best-ever season for a St Louis Cardinals’ third baseman?

With this in mind, MLB asked fans to vote for the greatest offensive single-season in their franchise’s history to determine each team’s dream lineup.

I love comparing players, comparing seasons, arguing with friends over what is better: speed or power?

Looking through the ballot forms on each club’s website, there is certainly a discussion to be had.

Can somebody who bats .230 have a better season than someone who hits 40 home runs? Is a catcher with 180 hits and 15 steals better than a catcher with 25 home runs and 75 RBI?

Is Roger Maris’ 1961 season good enough to earn him a spot in the all-time Yankees outfield ahead of Babe Ruth, Joe DiMaggio or Mickey Mantle?

Which Cleveland Indian shortstop had the better offensive year in their franchise's history? Omar Vizquel in ’99 or someone half a century earlier?

The list goes on and on. In an attempt to stimulate the discussion, I will be taking a team-by-team look at the players who I think had the best offensive single-season.

There’s no right or wrong answer, so join the debate and have your say. I will post links to each team’s report here over the next month, so check back regularly to post comments about your team.

The 2009 baseball season may be over, but the argument is just getting started.

Here is a link to each teams' report. The next one to be added is the Chicago White Sox on November 14.
