WWE Backlash 2018: Bobby Lashley and Most Likely Heel Turns
Wrestling fans have been dealing with an overload of WWE programming in recent weeks.
Following the WWE Superstar Shakeup, the Raw and SmackDown rosters have endured a major turnover. As a result, both shows need to start changing the direction of several characters to provide a fair balance of heels and faces.
Sunday's Backlash pay-per-view will likely be interesting due to potential heel or face turns, and here are the most likely.
After several years of honing his craft on Impact Wrestling, Lashley returned to WWE and received a great reaction from the fans. A few weeks later, a lack of clear direction has killed some of the momentum he had upon his return.
As a result, turning Lashley heel by having him attack Braun Strowman during their tag team match against Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn would be the most impactful way to use the bruising Superstar.
Raw is lacking top heels after the departure of both The Miz and Samoa Joe to SmackDown, and Jinder Mahal isn't the answer. Lashley found great success in Impact as a heel, and he could translate that character to WWE programming.
Add in the potential feud against Strowman, and the WWE Universe should be hoping that Lashley turns heel Sunday.
Asuka
Since her winning streak in WWE was broken by Charlotte at WrestleMania, Asuka has not been featured heavily. That should all change Sunday when the former NXT champion turns her back on her new friends at Backlash.
After recently moving to the SmackDown brand, Asuka was defeated by The IIconics, Billie Kay and Peyton Royce. In the go-home episode of SmackDown before Backlash, Asuka joined Charlotte Flair and Becky Lynch to face women's champion Carmella and The IIconics.
With Charlotte squaring off against Carmella for the SmackDown Women's Championship this Sunday, Lynch and Asuka could get involved to counteract involvement in the match from The IIconics.
Just when the faces need Asuka the most, she should turn on Lynch and Charlotte, costing the challenger the title and cementing her place as the top female heel on the roster. As a result, the potential feuds and matches against Lynch and Charlotte would make for marquee additions to any PPV card.
Finn Balor
Since returning from a shoulder injury that forced him to relinquish the Universal Championship, Finn Balor has been wallowing on the Raw roster. While his matches are always top notch, he hasn't had a storyline direction in months.
It's time for The Demon to join the dark side.
With Seth Rollins, Roman Reigns and Strowman positioned as the top faces on Raw, Balor is on the outside looking in right now. Turning him heel would instantly make him one of the top Superstars on the red brand.
Balor is one of the most marketable stars on Raw, but with no clear direction, it's time for a drastic character change. Maybe as a heel, WWE Creative would finally allow Balor to unleash his Demon more often.
