Markelle Fultz, Ben Simmons Visit Meek Mill in Prison

Joseph ZuckerApr 6, 2018

Philadelphia 76ers rookies Markelle Fultz and Ben Simmons visited rapper Meek Mill in prison this week, TMZ Sports reported Friday.

According to TMZ Sports, 76ers co-owner Michael Rubin helped put the visit together so that Meek Mill could share some "words of wisdom" ahead of the NBA playoffs. Philadelphia has already qualified for the postseason for the first time since 2011-12.

Meek Mill, whose real name is Robert Williams, received a prison sentence of two to four years last November after violating terms of probation stemming from a 2008 arrest.

In a motion filed to the Pennsylvania Supreme Court, the Philadelphia District Attorney's Office wrote it wouldn't oppose Williams being released on bail. A judge denied him bail last week while he appeals his sentence.

Speaking with Bleacher Report's Natalie Weiner last December, Rubin said he felt the need to step up and help Williams.

"Had I not seen it in person, I probably would not have gotten to this point of feeling like I have to stand up for him because he's being treated so unfairly, and he can't do this on his own," he said.
