Joel Embiid: 'I Gotta Trust the Process' After Surgery on Eye Injury Announced

Kyle NewportMar 29, 2018

No matter what happens, Joel Embiid always trusts the process.

The Philadelphia 76ers center had to leave Wednesday night's 118-101 win over the New York Knicks after being involved in a collision with teammate Markelle Fultz. Although the injury was announced as a facial contusion, further testing showed Embiid had suffered an orbital fracture of his left eye, which would require surgery. A recovery time frame of two to four weeks, per ESPN's Zach Lowe, puts his playoff status up in the air. He has also "since been diagnosed with a concussion," per the team.

Embiid isn't letting the situation get him down, though:

He's in much better spirits now after initially posting "not good" on Instagram on Wednesday night:

The 24-year-old had silenced his critics by staying healthy for most of the season, averaging 22.9 points, 11.0 rebounds and 1.8 blocks per game. More importantly, he helped the 76ers end a five-year playoff drought, as the team's already clinched a berth—although now, he may not be able to take the court with his squad in the postseason.
