Spurs' Becky Hammon Reportedly a 'Top Candidate' for Colorado State Job
San Antonio Spurs assistant coach Becky Hammon is reportedly "considered one of the top candidates" to become the head coach for the Colorado State men's basketball team, according to Pete Thamel of Yahoo Sports.
Athletic director Joe Parker has previously said he would consider Hammon for the vacant job following the resignation of Larry Eustachy.
"I've thought a lot about that," he said Friday, per Kelly Lyell of the Coloradoan. "It's the most frequently asked question I get and recommended candidate. I'm not closing the door on any thought."

Parker also outlined what he was looking for in his next head coach.
"Obviously, we need someone that’s got coaching acumen," he told Lyell. "We need someone that's proven to be able to recruit talent that can compete on the court and in the classroom. And the piece for them I think is really vital is to find someone that really embraces all the outreach aspects of what it means to be a head coach."
Hammon would be a logical choice, as she was a three-time All-American during her college playing career at Colorado State and a six-time WNBA All-Star. She's coached for the Spurs since the 2014 season, twice taking charge of the organization's Summer League team.
"She’s established a great presence in our group," Spurs general manager R.C. Buford told Thamel. "She’s got the respect of our coaches, our players and our organization. She has great insight at two different levels, both in the coaching environment and strategic discussions and she can also take [instruction] to our players and discuss with them."
As Thamel noted, she would become the first woman to coach a men's Division I team if she were she hired. But Buford believes the story of Hammon would quickly go from one about her making history to simply one about her always being the best option for the job.
“It wasn’t a big deal at the time [we hired her] because she deserved every bit of it," he noted. "We laugh about it. She wasn’t hired because we wanted to be trailblazers or she wanted to be one. She was hired because she was the right person to be in our group."
"My belief is that the story would last a short time, then it would be not that she’s a trailblazer, it’s that she’s the right fit," he added.
