WWE WrestleMania 34: Full Match Card Predictions After Elimination Chamber
Elimination Chamber offered a glimpse into the future, namely what WWE WrestleMania 34 will look like.
Sunday's pay-per-view set up one certain match for the April 8 mega-event—Roman Reigns vs. Brock Lesnar for the Universal Championship. Aside from Reigns' victory in Satan's Prison, a number of other moments and developments foreshadowed what's to come at The Show of Shows.
Braun Strowman's eye-catching performance at Elimination Chamber will likely lead The Monster Among Men to a title match of his own. The post-bell aftermath of Asuka vs. Nia Jax pointed to a powerhouse being in the spotlight come WrestleMania time. And no one has to guess who Ronda Rousey will collide with after how her contract signing went down.
The Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal is likely to feature talents like Rusev, Mojo Rawley and The Bar. Reigns vs. Lesnar is a lock. Read on for a look at what else is poised to be on the WrestleMania card in New Orleans.
The Miz vs. Braun Strowman (Intercontinental Championship)
1 of 9Many folks were clamoring for Strowman to be "the guy" and wishing he had been the one to win the Elimination Chamber match. A consolation prize may be on the way, though.
The fact that WWE showcased him as much as it did in that bout, eliminating just about everybody in his way, suggests the company has significant plans for him at WrestleMania. An Intercontinental Championship match where Strowman devours The Miz in a bite or two certainly qualifies.
The Hollywood elitist and WWE's resident grizzly bear have a lot of history to build on, too.
The Miz helped stuff Braun Strowman into a garbage truck last October at TLC: Tables, Ladders & Chairs. The monster later chased him down on Raw. Strowman has beaten up The Miz in various matches, including Sunday's, but not with the title on the line.
That is soon set to change.
Cedric Alexander vs. Mustafa Ali (Cruiserweight Championship Final)
2 of 9Cedric Alexander and Mustafa Ali have fought their ways to the second round of the ongoing Cruiserweight Championship tournament set to culminate at WrestleMania. Both are among the favorites to battle all the way to the final.
Alexander was the No. 1 contender gunning Enzo Amore before WWE cut ties with the champ. It's clear the company is comfortable with him as a top contender and was seemingly in the midst of pushing him in a big way.
Ali has been one of the highlights of the cruiserweight division, a skilled high-flyer who connects with the audience. He's a safer bet to make it to WrestleMania than some of the competition left on his side of the bracket like Mark Andrews and Buddy Murphy, as he's more established as a 205 Live entity.
Despite it being an all-babyface final, Alexander vs. Ali has major appeal. They have flourished in the ring together before and both would make great champions.
Plus, Alexander vs. Ali would be a spectacular match, one that emphatically ushers in a new era for the cruiserweights.
Ronda Rousey and Seth Rollins vs. Triple H and Stephanie McMahon
3 of 9Rousey is officially a member of Raw. She signed her contract at Elimination Chamber, but not without controversy.
During the segment, Kurt Angle revealed Triple H and Stephanie McMahon plotted against her to exact revenge for attacking them at WrestleMania 31. Rousey broke a table with Triple H's body and might have done worse to McMahon had the commissioner not skittered away in fear.
It's clear a WrestleMania showdown is brewing there. The only question is who will team up with the former UFC champion.
The Rock is the obvious choice, as he was involved in that previous altercation with The Authority, but his availability is a big question mark. Angle makes sense, too, thanks to his history with Triple H and his part in Sunday's chaotic scene.
But WWE may choose to go with a younger star, a workhorse who can help carry the match. Seth Rollins is the man for that job.
The Architect caught fire after a career performance in the Gauntlet match on Raw last week. His past rivalry with The Authority gives WWE plenty to dig into with the story ahead. And pairing him with Rousey would be a smart way to build on his momentum.
Charlotte Flair vs. Asuka (SmackDown Women's Championship)
4 of 9
It seemed certain that Asuka would face whoever won the Elimination Chamber match on Sunday, but WWE has kept the door open for her to choose to face Charlotte Flair instead.
The announcers on the pre-show brought up that possibility. And Monday's Raw preview asked about Asuka: "Will she wait until SmackDown women's champion Charlotte faces Ruby Riot at WWE Fastlane to make her final decision?"
Alexa Bliss vs. Asuka would be a fine match, but Flair vs. The Empress of Tomorrow is the far bigger bout. The same goes for anyone Flair could face from the SmackDown roster (sorry, Becky Lynch) compared to The Queen facing the undefeated Asuka.
Bliss is more likely to face a familiar face as Asuka clashes with a woman she can steal the show with.
The Usos vs. The Bludgeon Brothers (WWE SmackDown Tag Team Championship)
5 of 9The Usos still have to make it past The New Day at Fastlane to remain the SmackDown tag team titleholders at WrestleMania, but it's hard to imagine WWE taking the straps from them at this point. The brothers have been one of WWE's hottest acts, a hard-hitting duo with swagger to spare.
And the champs appear to be on a collision course with Harper and Rowan.
The Bludgeon Brothers have wiped out inferior competition time and time again. They remain undefeated since adopting their new gimmicks. Clearly, WWE has big plans for them.
Those likely include a showdown with a team they had excellent matches against back in 2014. The hints WWE offered to that end weren't subtle. The Bludgeon Brothers stared down The Usos after the champions talked about beating every team on the roster. Later, Harper and Rowan laid hammers to a TV monitor airing a Usos promo.
Alexa Bliss vs. Nia Jax (Raw Women's Championship)
6 of 9If Asuka seeks out the SmackDown champ, that will clear up space for Nia Jax to have her own WrestleMania moment.
At Sunday's Elimination Chamber event, Jax fell to Asuka but looked dominant throughout. She overpowered the undefeated star and left her wobbly. After a somewhat fluky loss, Jax whaled on Asuka, smashing her into the security barricade.
That could easily be the setup for Jax to earn her way into a Raw women's title bout.
Jax and Bliss have been both rivals and allies in the past. It makes sense to pit them against each other to take advantage of that history. And Raw can crown itself a new monstrous champion at WrestleMania.
Kevin Owens vs. Sami Zayn
7 of 9The cracks continue to widen in Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn's alliance. In the pursuit of AJ Styles and the WWE Championship, the best friends have bickered, barked at each other and hinted at one shoving a knife into the other's back.
Both men are set to enter a Fatal 5-Way for the WWE title at Fastlane. Zayn told KO that if it came down to the two of them, he would lie down in the ring to give his buddy the win. That smells like foreshadowing of a betrayal instead.
WWE has invested months of SmackDown airtime to this duo's relationship.
Something is brewing between general manager Daniel Bryan and commissioner Shane McMahon. Bryan has favored Owens and Zayn with recent decisions. Shane-O-Mac has disapproved of the job the GM has done.
Since Bryan isn't medically cleared, perhaps instead of facing McMahon himself he aligns himself with Zayn and the commish sides with a babyface Owens.
Owens vs. Zayn is a deep, beautiful rivalry that is well worth exploring again. WrestleMania 34 appears to be the time WWE will do just that.
John Cena vs. Undertaker
8 of 9John Cena told fans in recent weeks that he wasn't sure he'd have a spot on the WrestleMania card if he didn't win the Elimination Chamber. He didn't. But WWE isn't about to let a household name sit on the bench during The Show of Shows.
Cena is sure to be in line for a big bout. And there's a dream match for the taking if Undertaker isn't quite finished in the ring.
Last week, Cena seemed to hint at that showdown when he said that WrestleMania can bring the dead back to life. The Deadman stepping up to Cena to set up a true farewell match is a strong possibility moving forward.
Adding that to the lineup would elevate WrestleMania 34 like few contests could.
AJ Styles vs. Shinsuke Nakamura (WWE Championship)
9 of 9Shinsuke Nakamura's WrestleMania ticket is in hand.
He won this year's Royal Rumble match to secure a WWE title bout. He now just has to wait to see who will be holding that prize come April.
Styles needs to fend off Zayn, Owens, Baron Corbin and Dolph Ziggler to keep hold of his crown. On the surface, the odds don't seem to be in his favor, but WWE isn't going with anything other than Styles vs. Nakamura for the WWE Championship.
None of the other possible clashes have the kind of electricity that bout would. Ziggler vs. Nakamura is not a WrestleMania match. Styles vs. The King of Strong Style, however, will be Nakamura's crowning achievement at WWE and a welcome shift toward an improved SmackDown main event scene.
