Seth Rollins' Most Memorable Matches, Moments in WrestleMania History

Joseph ZuckerMar 22, 2018

Seth Rollins has only been a member of WWE's main roster for five-and-a-half years, but he has already created his fair share of memorable moments at WrestleMania.

First as a member of The Shield and then during his singles run, Rollins has been a mainstay of WrestleMania since he arrived. And considering he will turn 32 in May, he should produce even more indelible images at WWE's biggest pay-per-view of the year.

Here are Rollins' biggest highlights at WrestleMania.

WrestleMania 29: The Shield Makes Its 'Mania Debut

1 of 5

This match is mostly notable as the WrestleMania debut for the three Shield members, who had made their first WWE main-roster appearances in the main event of Survivor Series 2012.

Rollins combined with Roman Reigns and Dean Ambrose to beat Big Show, Randy Orton and Sheamus in a six-man tag team match. The bout helped further establish the trio as a serious threat considering The Shield beat three former world champions.

Beyond that, though, there was nothing remarkable about the match, and it's somewhat disappointing in retrospect that The Shield didn't get more of a showcase on WWE's grandest stage.

WrestleMania XXX: The Shield Make Quick Work of Kane, New Age Outlaws

2 of 5

This match was good in that The Shield beat Kane and The New Age Outlaws in under 2 minutes, 54 seconds. The Shield shouldn't have needed a lot of time to defeat three stars who were clearly well past their respective primes.

It's hard to believe how quickly things would change for the trio after WrestleMania XXX. Rollins hit Reigns in the back with a steel chair on the June 2, 2014, edition of Raw, and The Shield would never be the same.

They reunited in October, but Ambrose's triceps injury wiped out any possibility of the group wrestling together or having a Shield-related storyline at WrestleMania 34. Perhaps the stars can align so The Shield gets one more 'Mania match.

WrestleMania 31: The Greatest RKO Counter Ever

3 of 5

Building up to this bout, the big question was whether Randy Orton was going to counter Rollins' Curb Stomp into the RKO. It was one of those things that sounded great on paper but difficult to execute in practice.

In that sense, the match wasn't unpredictable, but the visual of seeing Rollins fly through the air and come down into an RKO out of nowhere exceeded anybody's expectations.

What made this so good was it felt organic, much like when Orton once turned Evan Bourne's attempted Shooting Star Press into an RKO.

Far too often, wrestlers will go out of their way in order to set up the move. They will jump off the top rope in a way that is clearly a means for Orton to hit his finishing move.

Rollins, on the other hand, was trying to land his finisher on Orton to put The Viper out for good, and Orton countered in the most perfect way possible.

Even though this match is going on three years old, Orton's WrestleMania RKO on Rollins is still awesome to watch.

WrestleMania 31: The Architect's Plan Comes to Fruition

4 of 5

This is a strong contender for the best-ever Money in the Bank cash-in.

Rollins had already wrestled—and in the second match of the night—so fans had largely forgotten about him by the time the WrestleMania 31 main event rolled around. Then, as Reigns and Brock Lesnar were putting on a classic, it felt like there was no way WWE would interrupt it in order to have a heel walk out as champion.

That all combined to add to the surprise of hearing Rollins' music play and seeing him run down the entrance ramp.

The way the cash-in unfolded was perfect. Rollins had to work a bit in order to win the title. It wasn't as simple as pinning either Lesnar or Reigns. Sure, The Architect took the easy road to his first world championship, but he didn't look weak in getting there.

WrestleMania 33: Rollins Dethrones the King of Kings

5 of 5

Rollins and Triple H told a great story in the months leading up to WrestleMania 33. Their battle was inevitable when The Game made The Architect his hand-picked champion after The Shield's breakup.

It was great seeing Rollins interrupt NXT TakeOver: San Antonio in January 2017 in order to confront Triple H because it blended NXT and WWE together and was the logical place for him to finally get Triple H's attention.

The fact WWE made a big deal of Rollins signing a hold harmless agreement was a little too convoluted, but it showed how far he was willing to go in order to get his revenge on Triple H.

The match was solid, and Rollins' victory showed WWE still held a high opinion of him after a torn ACL abruptly ended his reign as the WWE world heavyweight champion in November 2015.
