John Wall Reportedly Agrees to 5-Year Shoe Contract with Adidas

Tyler ConwayJan 7, 2018

John Wall is returning to the three stripes life.

The Washington Wizards point guard has agreed to a five-year shoe endorsement contract with Adidas, per Shams Charania of The Vertical.

Wall has gone without a shoe endorsement since the 2015-16 season after allowing his deal with Adidas to expire. He originally signed a deal with Reebok out of college but moved to Adidas when Reebok shifted its focus away from basketball.

Adidas offered Wall an eight-year, $66 million extension when his contract expired, per Nick DePaula of ESPN, which he found unsatisfactory. He has primarily worn Nike or Jordans on the floor since, though the two sides never agreed to an endorsement deal.

No terms of Wall's new contract have been released. However, it's fair to assume Wall is being paid well above the $8 million-plus pay grade Adidas offered him during their last negotiations. The Wizards star has become the face of the franchise, making four consecutive All-Star teams and earning his first All-NBA selection in 2016-17.

"To me, I banked on myself to have a season like this," Wall said in June, per Chase Hughes of NBC Sports Washington. "To be honest, I banked on myself. I just feel like somebody is gonna come [asking]. If not, I will still be a sneaker free agent. I feel like with the way I'm playing, the type of image I have, the character I have, how I interact with the fans in the community, I think I'm the perfect guy for a signature shoe."

Wall's financial status has never been lost on him. He bemoaned being paid the same amount as Detroit Pistons guard Reggie Jackson in 2015, and it's clear he's willing to continue betting on himself.

After agreeing to a $170 million extension with the Wizards this summer and inking what in all likelihood is another nine-figure deal with Adidas, it's safe to say Wall's bets are paying off.
