WWE Hell in a Cell 2017 Matches: Final Picks and Predictions for Entire Card
Hell will reign over SmackDown Live Sunday night in Detroit as WWE rolls into the Motor City for its Hell in a Cell pay-per-view, headlined by Shane McMahon and Kevin Owens' battle inside the ominous steel structure.
That match headlines a card featuring some of the most talented stars in the industry as well as contests capable of stealing the show and delivering fans a broadcast that exceeds expectations.
The New Day and The Usos will be the first Superstars to set foot inside the cell, while matches like Jinder Mahal vs. Shinsuke Nakamura and Charlotte vs. Natalya wow fans under standard rules.
Just hours from the WWE Network presentation, who can fans expect to leave with their arms raised in victory?
Take a look with these last-minute match previews and predictions.
Chad Gable and Shelton Benjamin vs. The Hype Bros
1 of 8
The Hype Bros have been in the midst of a losing streak that is slowly and not so subtly altering their attitudes.
That losing streak and inching ever-so-closer to a heel turn will continue Sunday night.
Chad Gable and Shelton Benjamin will continue to build their resume as a team and potentially enter tag title contention, while Zack Ryder and Mojo Rawley turn toward the dark side to discover more success.
Prediction: Chad Gable and Shelton Benjamin defeat The Hype Bros.
Bobby Roode vs. Dolph Ziggler
2 of 8
Dolph Ziggler spent the month leading into Hell in a Cell interrupting episodes of SmackDown Live and mocking Superstars of days gone by in an attempt to make a point: Fans care more about grandiose entrances and overbearing gimmicks than they do about hard work and dedication to in-ring work.
He has been scathing, clearly infuriated by the lack of attention and respect paid to him in recent years.
His most recent outcry for attention was interrupted by Bobby Roode, who is representative of everything Ziggler so vehemently denounced.
Sunday night, the two celebrated in-ring workers will do what they do so well: wrestle.
After the referee slaps the mat three times and the bell rings, the fans will chant "GLORIOUS" in celebration of Roode's highest-profile main roster victory to date.
And Ziggler's whining and complaining will all have been for naught.
Prediction: Bobby Roode defeats Dolph Ziggler.
Women's Championship Match: Charlotte vs. Natalya
3 of 8
Natalya won the SmackDown Women's Championship at SummerSlam by defeating Naomi clean via the Sharpshooter. In the weeks that followed, she picked up a victory in a competitive rematch, then sat back and watched as the former champion, Becky Lynch, battled Tamina and Charlotte for the right to challenge her at Hell in a Cell.
The latter earned the opportunity, and Sunday night, she will provide Natalya with the greatest challenge of her short title reign.
And ensure it does not last one night longer.
Charlotte will defeat Natalya for her title, beating The Queen of Hearts as she has in nearly every other instance in which they waged war.
The question is whether or not Carmella involves herself and maybe cashes in Money in the Bank.
Given the manner in which WWE Creative has subtly intertwined Carmella in the rivalry ahead of Sunday's show, expect The Princess of Staten Island to appear during the women's title festivities, if not cash in her guaranteed opportunity and set up the next high-profile rivalry in the SmackDown women's division.
Prediction: Charlotte defeats Natalya to win the SmackDown Women's Championship. Carmella successfully cashes in Money in the Bank and wins the title.
United States Championship Match: AJ Styles vs. Baron Corbin
4 of 8
Baron Corbin may have failed to successfully cash in Money in the Bank just days before SummerSlam and lost in unimpressive fashion to John Cena at the August 21 pay-per-view, but he has remained relevant on Tuesday nights, thanks to a feud with AJ Styles over the United States Championship.
Corbin has repeatedly interrupted Styles' attempts at enacting a United States Championship Open Challenge, attacking frequent challenger Tye Dillinger and interfering in matches between The Perfect 10 and The Phenomenal One.
On the October 3 episode of SmackDown Live, Dillinger scored a massive upset over Corbin, leading Styles to reiterate that shortcuts will not get you far on the show he helped build.
Expect Corbin to utilize one of those shortcuts during Sunday's U.S. Championship match and win the title from Styles.
Yes, it is probably too early to win the title again, but at this point, another high-profile loss will do more damage than good to Corbin.
Prediction: Baron Corbin defeats AJ Styles to win the United States Championship.
Randy Orton vs. Rusev
5 of 8
Arguably the least interesting match on the Hell in a Cell card, the showdown between Randy Orton and Rusev dates back to just before SummerSlam in April. You would not know that given how underdeveloped the rivalry has been and how nonexistent the heat has been throughout.
At SummerSlam, Orton defeated Rusev in nine seconds. The Bulgarian Brute answered with his own quick victory, though the match was not a previously scheduled one.
At Hell in a Cell, they will look to bring about the conclusion of their ice-cold rivalry in front of a WWE Universe eagerly anticipating literally any other match on the card.
Common sense says Rusev goes over to build credibility, but all signs point to Orton vanquishing his opponent with another RKO and moving onto...something else.
Prediction: Randy Orton RKOs his way to victory in a match you forgot was on the card.
Hell in a Cell for the Tag Team Championships: The New Day vs. The Usos
6 of 8
The New Day and The Usos have come together to drag the SmackDown Live tag team division from the doldrums, creating an intense and red-hot rivalry that has spawned several show-stealing performances.
Sunday night, the months-long program will come to a head inside Hell in a Cell as the teams battle for the SmackDown Tag Team Championships in a match that, in any other wrestling promotion, probably would have been the main event.
Instead, it will have the opportunity to once again steal the show out from underneath the other high-profile bouts on the show.
The question is whether or not management wants to stick with the theme of title changes.
New Day defeated The Usos at Battleground in July. The heels won the titles back a month later at SummerSlam. The Booty-Os-shilling babyfaces regained them on SmackDown from Las Vegas.
Does WWE wrap up the program with new champions one last time or is this the first time since June's Money in the Bank that the titles are successfully defended?
It feels like the former.
Prediction: The New Day defeats The Usos to retain the SmackDown Tag Team Championships.
WWE Championship Match: Shinsuke Nakamura vs. Jinder Mahal
7 of 8
WWE champion Jinder Mahal's improbable rise to sports entertainment supremacy took the wrestling world by surprise this summer. His wins over Randy Orton helped establish him as the lead heel on SmackDown Live and a relatively strong heel champion.
Since then, though, he has been bogged down by poor booking and a feud with Shinsuke Nakamura that has yet to capture the imaginations of the fans.
Nakamura has yet to be fully developed and Mahal's unfunny, racially charged jokes at The Artist's expense have not helped matters.
Sunday night, the program limps into Hell in a Cell for a WWE Championship match that feels like, maybe, the third-most important match on the show.
The tone of the program would suggest Nakamura leaves with the title Sunday, but with a tour of India upcoming, WWE would seemingly want Mahal to retain until then.
Prediction: Jinder Mahal defeats Shinsuke Nakamura to retain the WWE Championship.
Falls Count Anywhere Hell in a Cell Match: Shane McMahon vs. Kevin Owens
8 of 8
Kevin Owens must defeat Shane McMahon Sunday night inside Hell in a Cell.
The entire story has been building to Owens getting the rub that comes from working with a high-profile star like McMahon and ultimately beating him in one of WWE's signature gimmick bouts.
Fueled by frustration over what he considered unfair and biased treatment, Owens has targeted not only Shane but also father Vince in his quest for revenge. He bloodied the Chairman of the Board and left the prodigal son lying in a heap to close out the October 3 episode of SmackDown Live.
Shane is seeking vengeance for his family, which has been disrespected and dishonored by Owens in the lead-in to Sunday's pay-per-view.
Unfortunately for him, raw emotion will not be enough to fuel him to victory.
Prediction: Kevin Owens defeats Shane McMahon, becoming an even bigger and more significant star.
