Stephen Jackson: The Only Warrior with Balls To Tell It How It Is

Steven ResnickOct 17, 2009

Stephen Jackson gets crucified in the media for his earlier mistakes in his career. Now, Jackson gets called out for bringing the team down because of what? Oh, because he wants out of the Warriors franchise.

He's finally learned that the franchise isn't about winning but instead about owner Chris Cohan's getting the most money as possible instead of fielding a talented team. Jackson's biggest complaint this offseason was the Warriors were not able to bring in a big man.

Wow, that was a harsh comment made by Jackson! Let's look at the Warriors franchise where it's currently at, position-wise.

There are currently 10 guards on the roster and six big men on the roster with one out for most of the season. So, basically, the 15-man roster is about guards and small forwards with very little depth up front.

Can you blame Jackson for wanting a big man on the team? Also, I can't blame Jackson for being upset about Don Nelson not backing him up, especially when he's trying to guard one of the best players in the league in Kobe Bryant!

Although, Jackson shouldn't be surprised, considering Nelson is the one that was solely responsible for the downfall of the Warriors franchise after leaving during the '94-'95 season and then again selling his own buddy—the man who got him the job as Warriors coach, Chris Mullin—down the river.

Jackson's ability to call out the organization is refreshing, especially since he's still with the team. His comments remind me of lyrics from Eminem's song The Real Slim Shady. Here's the lyric: "The only difference is I got the balls to say it in front of ya'll, And I don't gotta be false or sugar-coated at all."

Jackson is telling Warriors fans what we've all known for years. The front office of the Warriors is an absolute joke. It starts with owner Chris Cohan, team president Robert Rowell, GM Larry Riley, and even head coach Don Nelson.

So should Warriors fans be concerned about Jackson's attitude? Absolutely, but for not the reason the media likes to bring out that Jackson is bringing down the team. It's the fact that the team's players will start waking up and realizing just how badly this franchise is run.

The only difference is that David Stern doesn't have the balls to get Cohan out. It's known around the NBA that the Warriors are home to some of the best fans in the NBA, yet the team constantly puts out pathetic team after pathetic team.

One playoff appearance in 15 years is unacceptable! The horrendous trades, draft picks, and coaching hires have been just as bad. Even worse is the front office hires, such as Gary St. Jean and Robert Rowell.

It's time for a change in the Bay Area! It starts with getting rid of Cohan any way possible. If it means boycotting games, that should be done; if it means bombarding NBA.com's "contact us" section with complaints, that should be done too!

The boycotts and the complaints aren't going to do much, though. Warriors fans should bring in whatever they can, such as bags, like in Detroit, signs, etc...Anything possible that will get attention to the displeasure of the fans about how the organization is run.

That leads to the question of whether Jackson is the only one who has balls to stand up to how bad the organization is and make some noise? Absolutely! Mullin had no power to bring up how bad the organization was, but Jackson does—and it's refreshing!

I rather have 10 Jacksons on the team who are willing to stand up for themselves then players who just come into the franchise, put up numbers, and then leave for better opportunities.

So on opening night, Warriors fans should give Jackson a standing ovation!
