As seen in the following video of Vick's TV appearance, he suggested Kaepernick should cut his hair to improve his image:
Vick also said Kaepernick remaining unsigned isn't due to his decision to kneel during the national anthem last season: "The reason he's not playing has nothing to do with the national anthem, it's more solely on his play, but yeah, everything takes precedent, in terms of image, perception."
Vick later took to his own Twitter account to clarify his comments, saying Kapernick's hair has "nothing to do with him not being on an NFL roster right now":
Kaepernick primarily wore his hair in an afro last season, and Vick believes changing his hairstyle could lead to more interest among teams:
"First thing we've got to get Colin to do is cut his hair. Listen, I'm not up here to try to be politically correct. Even if he puts cornrows in there. I don't think he should represent himself in that way in terms of just the hairstyle. Just go clean-cut. You know, why not? You're already dealing with a lot of controversy surrounding this issue. The most important thing that he needs to do is just try to be presentable."
The 37-year-old Vick retired this offseason after a 13-year NFL career that included stints with the Atlanta Falcons, Philadelphia Eagles, New York Jets and Pittsburgh Steelers as well as four Pro Bowl nods.
Kaepernick started 11 games for the San Francisco 49ers last season, and although he went just 1-10, he threw for 2,241 yards, 16 touchdowns and four interceptions while rushing for 468 yards and two touchdowns.
The 29-year-old veteran twice led the Niners to the NFC Championship Game, including a Super Bowl berth during the 2012 season.
Kaepernick visited with the Seattle Seahawks this offseason, but Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll told reporters they didn't sign him because "he's a starter in this league."
