Giancarlo Stanton Trade Rumors: Giants Reportedly Have Most Interest in Star
If the Miami Marlins decide to move Giancarlo Stanton before the July 31 non-waiver trade deadline, the San Francisco Giants are reportedly making the biggest push for the All-Star outfielder.
SiriusXM's Craig Mish reported the Giants have shown the most interest in Stanton among teams that have called the Marlins.
Mish added the Marlins "have not taken calls or even discussed Stanton going elsewhere in years," and this is "new to them."
If the Marlins decide to move Stanton and find a trade partner that matches up with them, he has a full no-trade clause and would have to agree to any deal before it becomes official.
The Giants are in dire straits right now, even with stars like Buster Posey and Madison Bumgarner on the roster. They enter Saturday with a 35-56 record, second-worst in the National League. Baseball America ranked their farm system as the seventh-worst in MLB coming into 2017.
Stanton's immense power would certainly provide a boost to the Giants lineup, but the Marlins' asking price should be sky high. He's only 27 years old with a contract that includes three more guaranteed years after 2017.
