Kings Reportedly Will Get 2019 Draft Pick, Cash for Knicks Hiring Scott Perry
The New York Knicks will send a 2019 second-round pick and cash considerations to the Sacramento Kings as compensation for hiring Scott Perry as their new general manager, according to USA Today's Sam Amick.
The Knicks owe their original 2019 second-round selection to the Philadelphia 76ers, but they will have two other picks at their disposal, according to the terms of previous trades:
According to ESPN.com's Adrian Wojnarowski, Perry and the Knicks agreed on a five-year deal.
Howard Beck of Bleacher Report provided a statement from the Knicks announcing Steve Mills' promotion to team president and Perry as the team's GM:
Hired in April as the Kings' vice president of basketball operations, Perry "played a part" in drafting De'Aaron Fox at No. 5 overall and facilitating trades back in the first round to acquire North Carolina's Justin Jackson and Duke's Harry Giles, according to Wojnarowski and Ian Begley.
Those two added Perry is expected to have "tremendous freedom to operate as he chooses" and will run the day-to-day basketball operations while reporting to Mills.
One of Perry's first orders of business will be navigating a touchy situation with Carmelo Anthony.
On Thursday, Wojnarowski and Ramona Shelburne reported the Knicks are "pausing" trade discussions with the Houston Rockets and Cleveland Cavaliers because they "want to pursue a conversation with the 10-time NBA All-Star about possibly reincorporating him into the organization."
However, that figures to be a hard sell since Anthony has been publicly available for months and was "focused" on finding a new home after he agreed to waive his no-trade clause to play for the Rockets or Cavaliers.
