Did Team Mayweather Mess with Conor's Mic at Presser to Gain Unfair Advantage?
Round 1 of a four-round world media tour to promote the megafight between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Conor McGregor kicked off Tuesday at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.
Both Floyd and Conor got their verbal jabs in.
But it seemed like the majority of folks following along on Twitter thought Floyd won the first round 10-9.
Even Irish MMA writer Sean Sheehan was disappointed by Dublin's own. And Bleacher Report's lead combat sports writer, Jonathan Snowden, succinctly pointed out the discrepancy between the two men.
"Conor McGregor just kind of rambling. Not owning the moment like we all expected. #McGregorMayweather

"Nah. Floyd pointing out being in the boxing ring makes him the A-side was the kill shot. Argument dead right there. https://t.co/HjR3emavFu

But did Floyd's team give its guy an unfair advantage by tampering with Conor's mic? Brian Campbell of CBS Sports sure seemed to think it wasn't a fair fight based on his above tweet. Even UFC light heavyweight champ Daniel Cormier took notice.
Conor's teammate Cathal Pendred went as far as to proclaim the presser was rigged in favor of Floyd.
"That press conference was completely controlled so Mayweather wasn't embarrassed by Conor's trash talk. https://t.co/znEZmXBNNh

Obviously, he's just a bit biased. But it wouldn't be all that shocking for Floyd to engage in some shenanigans to give himself the home-field advantage. Conor was not amused, as MMAFighting's Dave Doyle captured (NSFW):
Below is one such scene when Floyd was tearing into Conor, but when Conor went to fire back, his mic mysteriously did not work.
The world tour heads to Toronto on Wednesday. Then Brooklyn, New York, on Thursday. And it concludes in London on Friday.
No doubt Conor will look to get the better of Floyd from here on out—and hopefully his mic doesn't malfunction, whether it's intentional or not.
