MLB All Star Voting Results 2017: Full Selections, Starters, Snubs and Voting

Steve SilvermanJul 2, 2017

The Houston Astros have been the hottest team in the American league throughout the first half of the season, and they are well on their way to gaining home-field advantage throughout the AL playoffs.

It's no surprise that the surging Astros have three players in the starting lineup for the American League in the July 11 All-Star Game in Miami. Those players included the double-play combination of second baseman Jose Altuve and shortstop Carlos Correa along with outfielder George Springer.

Springer was third in the All-Star voting among outfielders behind rookie Aaron Judge of the New York Yankees and Mike Trout of the Los Angeles Angels.

Trout has been out with a torn thumb ligament, and he was not expected back for the All-Star Game after suffering the injury. However, Trout's recovery appears to be going well, and there is a chance he will be able to play in the All-Star Game, according to the Los Angeles Time's Mike DiGiovanna.

Trout is widely considered to be the best all-around player in Major League Baseball, and he has already won the All-Star Game MVP award twice in his career. If he is deemed healthy and can take his place in the starting lineup, it would not be a shock if he was a strong contender for that award once again.

Justin Smoak of the Toronto Blue Jays has hit 22 home runs this season and is the starter at first base, while Jose Ramirez of the Cleveland Indians will start for the American League at third base. Tampa Bay designated hitter Corey Dickerson has had an enormous first half and will start at that position.

In the National League, the Washington Nationals have three starters in outfielder Bryce Harper, first baseman Ryan Zimmerman and second baseman Daniel Murphy.

Zack Cozart of the Cincinnati Reds beat out the Los Angeles Dodgers' Corey Seager as the NL's starting shortstop, and the Colorado Rockies' Nolan Arenado beat out Kris Bryant of the Chicago Cubs to earn the start at third base.

Arenado's teammate, Charlie Blackmon, will start in the outfield, as will Marcell Ozuna of the Miami Marlins. He didn't know he was an official starter at the time, but Ozuna hammered two home runs Sunday in Milwaukee in celebration of the honor.

Here's a look at the full rosters of both teams, as per MLB.com.

The American League reserves include catcher Gary Sanchez of the Yankees, shortstop Francisco Lindor of the Indians and Mookie Betts of the Boston Red Sox. Betts punctuated his All-Star selection with an eight-RBI game Sunday in Boston's 15-1 victory over the Blue Jays.

While no other Red Sox position player was named to the All-Star team, pitcher Chris Sale has been dominant this season and has a legitimate chance to start for manager Terry Francona. Closer Craig Kimbrel could finish the game if it goes well for the American League.

Corey Kluber of the Indians and Yu Darvish of the Texas Rangers were among the starting pitchers named, while Andrew Miller of the Indians and the Yankees' Dellin Betances join Kimbrel as relievers on the staff.

Catcher Yadier Molina of the St. Louis Cardinals is one of the key reserves for the National League, as is outfielder Giancarlo Stanton of the Marlins. Paul Goldschmidt of the Arizona Diamondbacks made the team as a first baseman, while Josh Harrison of the Pittsburgh Pirates earned a spot on the NL team as a second baseman.

Cody Bellinger of the Dodgers has hit 24 home runs since being elevated to the team April 25, and he will be joined there by teammates Clayton Kershaw, Kenley Jansen and Seager.

Kershaw seems to have an excellent chance to start for the NL, although Cubs manager Joe Maddon could choose to go with Max Scherzer of the Nationals or Zack Greinke of the Diamondbacks.

Harper was the leading vote-getter with more than 4.6 million votes, per MLB insider Bob Nightengale, while Judge led the American League with 4,448,702, according to the Yankees.

Final vote totals for all players and positions were not immediately made available by Major League Baseball.

Some of the key American League All-Star snubs include shortstop Didi Gregorius of the Yankees, third baseman Mike Moustakas of the Kansas City Royals and Logan Morrison of the Tampa Bay Rays.

On the National League side, third baseman Anthony Rendon of the Nationals, first baseman Mark Reynolds of the Rockies and third baseman Kris Bryant of the Cubs could have made the roster but did not.

Fans will have an opportunity to vote for the final player on each roster. On the AL side, shortstops Elvis Andrus of the Rangers and Xander Bogaerts of the Red Sox join the three players named among the AL snubs, while first baseman Justin Bour of the Marlins and third baseman Justin Turner of the Dodgers join the players listed as NL snubs.
