Draymond Green Says Cavaliers Fans 'Are Just Rude' After Heckling Mother
Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green told reporters Cleveland fans "are just rude" after they heckled his mother throughout Game 3 of the 2017 NBA Finals.
"They're fine, it happens every year. Fans here are just rude. My mom can hold her own, though, she's good," Green said at Thursday's practice session.
A clip from the stands at Quicken Loans Arena showed Green's mother, Mary Babers-Green, getting into a verbal altercation with a Cavaliers fan immediately following the Warriors' 118-113 win over Cleveland. Security was called to where she was seated, though there were no arrests made, per TMZ Sports.
"Everyone apologized so it's all good! If they would watch the game and enjoy it instead of worshipping it. They would be fine," Babers-Green tweeted in a response to a Twitter user. "...They trash talk and you trash talk back. They can't handle it and they start getting up in your personal space. We ALL APOLOGIZED-NO WORRIES."
Babers-Green said the situation never escalated beyond trash talk until security got involved.
As is the case in most cities, Cavaliers fans often save their loudest boos for Green over the past few seasons. His style of play tends to rankle fans of opposing teams, and he feeds into it with a facetiously villainous persona.
However, there's never an excuse for a fan to harass anyone else attending a game—let alone the mother of an opponent. Babers-Green may be able to "hold her own" as Green said, but this isn't a good look for anyone involved.
