MLB Investigating Addison Russell Domestic Violence Allegation in Instagram Post
Major League Baseball is set to investigate Chicago Cubs shortstop Addison Russell after allegations of domestic violence were made against him Wednesday.
According to Gordon Wittenmyer of the Chicago Sun-Times, Russell's wife, Melisa, suggested on social media that the couple was breaking up. Someone then commented on one of the posts and alleged Russell had been abusive toward his wife.
The comment was made by Instagram user Carlie Reed, who Melisa Russell referred to as a close friend, per Wittenmyer.

Reed wrote, "Hateful is cheating on your wife, mentally and physically abusing her. Melisa didn't want that out, but I'll say it. He hit her. In front of (the couple's son) Aiden and (Addison's daughter from a previous relationship) Mila. But let's worry about Melisa being 'hateful.' She was loyal, forgiving and kind. Still is. She found condoms in his apartment yesterday. Should I keep the list going?"
Russell denied any wrongdoing in a statement released by the Cubs (via Big League Stew):
The 23-year-old Russell is in the middle of his third season with the Cubs.
After being named an All-Star last season, he is hitting just .209, with three home runs and 19 RBI thus far in 2017.
Addison and Melisa Russell got married in January 2016.
