WrestleMania 2018: Dream Matches Fans Want to See at Next Year's Show of Shows
Even before the curtains closed on this year's edition of The Showcase of the Immortals, daydreams of what WWE WrestleMania 34 in New Orleans will look like filled the heads of many fans.
AJ Styles is fresh off tangling with Shane McMahon in a show-stealer. Brock Lesnar outmuscled Goldberg. And Roman Reigns put down Undertaker.
Those major names need new marquee foes in 2018 when all the hoopla of WrestleMania begins again.
For Styles, he showed he deserves a top-flight foe. Lesnar should face a New Era cornerstone who could bloody his mouth. Reigns should find his own WrestleMania foe in his family tree.
And what of Finn Balor? The first Universal champion didn't even make the card this year. Audiences will be hungry to see him clash with a performer on his level in New Orleans.
Read on for a look at the big WrestleMania 34 bouts WWE could put together to deliver another thrilling event next spring.
Finn Balor vs. AJ Styles
1 of 6When fans bemoaned the fact Styles was facing McMahon at WrestleMania, they griped about it not being a dream match. They talked of how McMahon couldn't hang with a performer on Styles' level.
Finn Balor most certainly can.
Styles and The Demon King would put on a classic. They are both among the most athletic members of the roster and two of the most gifted overall performers working today.
There would be a glut of electricity throughout their contest.
Plus, each man once ran The Bullet Club in Japan. To see them collide on WWE's biggest stage would be a grand thrill, something that didn't seem possible when The Phenomenal One was tearing it up in New Japan Pro Wrestling.
Charlotte Flair vs. Ronda Rousey
2 of 6Ever since former UFC bantamweight champ Ronda Rousey stepped into the ring at WrestleMania 31 to smack Stephanie McMahon around, visions of the judoka in the squared circle have popped up.
She's one of the biggest stars in MMA. She has been vocal about her love of pro wrestling. That sounds like a marriage made in heaven.
As Lesnar's longtime manager, Paul Heyman, said on a recent edition of the Fight Society podcast: "Ronda Rousey doing anything in WWE is a natural fit."
If Rousey were to sign on for a WrestleMania gig, Charlotte Flair would be her ideal foil. Flair has the most presence and star power of any of WWE's women's wrestlers. She's among the taller ones on the roster as well, so the visual of standing toe-to-toe with Rousey would work.
Flair's in-ring acumen could help the inexperienced Rousey produce a quality match. And WWE could play up The Queen's connection to Ric Flair juxtaposed with Rousey's affinity for Roddy Piper, for a continuation of that old rivalry of sorts.
The Rock vs. Roman Reigns
3 of 6Should The Rock return to WrestleMania for a full-on match again, WWE has a clear option to roll with.
Reigns' family connection with The Rock has made them onscreen allies in the past. The Rock assisted The Big Dog during the 2015 Royal Rumble.
To watch them clash would be something special.
And after taking down Undertaker, Reigns could add another icon to his list of victims. Consider, too, how immensely popular The Rock is compared to Reigns, who has been struggling to fight an audience reaction for years. A heel Reigns against a babyface Brahma Bull would be the collision of a decade.
This would be the latest battle of the generations to grace the WrestleMania stage.
Sasha Banks vs. Stephanie McMahon
4 of 6Stephanie McMahon has bullied and berated the Raw locker room for a long time. The men she stomps on haven't been able to retaliate, though. So McMahon's heat has grown but with nowhere to go, no match to use it on.
Enter Sasha Banks.
The Boss has taken on the likes of Bayley and Flair before. The Raw commissioner would be a fresh challenge, and a famous one at that. Banks could stand up to the tyrant in a battle with wrestling royalty.
And unlike the Brie Bella vs. McMahon match from SummerSlam 2014, this has a shot of being some high-quality fare. McMahon is one hell of a storyteller. Banks is a top-notch in-ring performer. That combination is a winner for sure.
The New Day vs. Matt and Jeff Hardy
5 of 6Matt and Jeff Hardy reinvented themselves in 2016, each undergoing a significant, intriguing character shift. Their "broken" personas were the highlight of Impact Wrestling when they were still with that company, but the relationship between the performers and the promotion crumbled.
The Hardy Boyz have since moved on. They surprised the WWE faithful by showing up at WrestleMania 33 and taking home the Raw tag team titles.
A showdown with The New Day is a must. Big E, Xavier Woods and Kofi Kingston's goofy, exuberant personas would make for a compelling contrast to the Hardys' out-there shtick.
The New Day never found viable opponents on its level. The trio ended up hosting WrestleMania 33, rather than competing on the card, as a result.
The team that thrived during the Attitude Era versus the team that dominated the past few years is a dream matchup.
Kevin Owens vs. Brock Lesnar
6 of 6WWE fans have only seen glimpses of the war that Lesnar and Kevin Owens could have against each other.
The Beast Incarnate recently battled Owens at a house show in New York. The two men have crossed paths in multi-man brawls on Raw. But that's it.
Seeing Owens trade blows with the unsettling powerhouse that is Lesnar at WrestleMania would be mighty fun.
The story would tell itself. Owens lost the Universal Championship to Goldberg. Lesnar claimed the title from Goldberg. KO could spend the next several months ripping up the roster to get that gold once more.
If done right, Owens could look like a truly fearsome force himself by the time WrestleMania 34 rolls around. Then we could see a slobberknocker for the ages.
Plus, Owens would tear the big man apart on Twitter leading up to the massive match.
