Finn Balor's Best Booking Options at WWE WrestleMania 33
WWE WrestleMania 33 is almost here, and fans are looking at a stacked card. Thirteen matches are booked, and the kickoff show begins at 5 p.m. ET on Sunday. The best talents in the world, including legends and New Era stars alike, will be on hand for The Show of Shows.
But where is Finn Balor?
The company's first Universal champion is back from injury and has worked some live events over the past couple weeks. However he has not yet been seen on TV, which means WWE is surely saving him for the right time.
Perhaps the right time will come at WrestleMania.
Considering that either Goldberg or Brock Lesnar, or perhaps both, will disappear after Mania, the door is wide-open for a top star to return. With a possible Roman Reigns heel turn against The Undertaker, there would be even more of a need for a top babyface star to return.
Balor fits both of those descriptions perfectly.
But WWE has not been forthcoming about when Balor will make his return to regular rotation for Monday Night Raw. If he does indeed come back at WrestleMania, there are a few potentially explosive spots in which he could definitely make an impact.
Getting Revenge on The Architect
Seth Rollins is headed for a major Mania showdown with Triple H. The Game has to face his day of reckoning, as Rollins will be looking for redemption. Though the two men were once very close, they could not be farther apart now.
Rollins once sold his soul to The Game, and now he wants it back.
But one fact that has perhaps been lost in the excitement of Rollins' face turn is that he's directly responsible for Balor's injury. At one time, many fans considered Rollins to be unsafe in the ring, and Balor was the latest example of that.
It's only logical that Balor would want some redemption himself.
The problem with a possible interference from Balor is obvious; it would interfere with Rollins' ability to win the match. It would also create heat between two top protagonists, which is something WWE likely does not want to do.
The only way it could work is if Samoa Joe gets involved on Hunter's behalf, only to be stopped in his tracks by Balor's Demon.
Balor could prevent Joe's interference, allowing Rollins to get the win. The two could then go nose to nose, in an obvious nod to the heat they once had, only for Balor to take a step back and leave Rollins to celebrate in the ring.
It's a move that would immediately put Balor back on the map and also give him a renewed rivalry with Samoa Joe.
Facing The Deadman
From the moment that Finn put on the paint and became The Demon in WWE, fans wanted to see him cross paths with The Undertaker.
The two share an otherworldly gimmick, one that will forever join them. Much like Goldberg and Brock Lesnar, Undertaker and Balor could very well be opposite sides of the same coin. Balor could be considered the modern evolution of The Deadman's character, and that means a confrontation could be possible sooner rather than later.
But how would that play out at WrestleMania?
Undertaker could be moments away from beating Reigns, when Balor's music hits and The Demon makes his way down the ramp. The two men would have an epic staredown that could ultimately result in Taker either winning or losing the match.
Either way, the door would be opened for The Demon versus The Deadman.
Many fans assume that Taker's days are numbered, but those same fans likely don't want to see him go down at the hands of Reigns. An impending feud and match with Balor would guarantee that The Phenom would live to fight another day.
Similarly to the Rollins scenario, Balor would immediately be set for big things in the future. If WWE is truly interested in elevating him to top-guy status, it would not come at a better time than against the legendary Undertaker.
Befuddling The Beast
If a beast can't be taken down in a fight, then maybe he can be thrown off balance.
That's exactly what could happen if The Demon comes to the ring after Brock Lesnar defeats Goldberg for the WWE Universal Championship. Lesnar has faced powerhouses, he's faced legends, and he's faced phenoms.
But he's never faced anyone like The Demon.
While Balor is a kindred spirit with The Undertaker, he's also in his prime. He's an intense worker with a world of talent, but when he puts on the paint, he's a master of mind games. That could be the biggest weapon anyone has ever pointed at Lesnar, and it would definitely set Balor on a path to the top.
It would be perhaps the best way for Balor to come back to the main roster. Though he would surely want a measure of revenge against Rollins, he would also surely want his universal title back. The only way to get it is to make his presence known against the champ.
Goldberg could retain the championship of course, and if that happens, Balor would really have no reason to confront Lesnar. But if The Beast Incarnate does indeed win the gold, then he could come face to face with the most mysterious opponent he's ever seen.
Balor would not run, and he would never stop. The Demon represents the darkest side of his personality, and he could take Lesnar to places he's never been before. The Undertaker is in the last days of his career. Sting is retired from the business. Bray Wyatt has already crossed paths with Lesnar and lost.
Balor is the last of the supernatural characters to be a serious threat to Lesnar. He could never match The Beast when it comes to raw power, but he could be the man to psychologically destroy him.
