Real Madrid Transfer News: Latest Rumours on James Rodriguez and Eden Hazard

Matt JonesMar 11, 2017

Bayern Munich manager Carlo Ancelotti is reportedly keen on signing Real Madrid playmaker James Rodriguez in the summer.

That's according to Marca (h/t Football Espana), who noted that the Italian is a big fan of the Colombia international, having previously worked together at the Santiago Bernabeu for a season. Rodriguez enjoyed his best campaign in Madrid colours under Ancelotti.

The report also noted that Juventus and Manchester United both hold an interest in Rodriguez should Madrid decide to sell.

Here's a reminder of just how potent the playmaker was during his first season at the club, excelling on the back of some stunning displays at the FIFA World Cup:

Since Ancelotti's departure at the end of the 2014-15 season, things have gone downhill for Rodriguez at the Bernabeu.

Current manager Zinedine Zidane has used him as an impact player from the bench or a midfielder who starts in less significant matches. It's a far cry from the responsibility Rodriguez enjoyed under Ancelotti, where he was at the creative axis for some of Madrid's best performances in his debut term.

Even in his current place on the periphery of the squad, Rodriguez continues to make an impression, with two goals and five assists in just 611 minutes of La Liga action this season.

Per Squawka Football, he has an impressive record at the club:

In many respects, Bayern could well be a perfect move for the Colombian if he does want to kickstart his career at another European giant.

Ancelotti knows him well, and while the German champions do possess quality in midfield, their squad is without what you'd class as an orthodox No. 10, whereas Madrid's is bursting with them. Subsequently, Rodriguez may get more playing time at the Allianz Arena.

Eden Hazard, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang Interest

According to Sky Sports' Guillem Balague, Real Madrid will seek to sign a Galactico forward this summer, with Chelsea's Eden Hazard and Borussia Dortmund star Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang said to be on their radar.

"A goalkeeper for sure, and another Galactico up front. [Aubameyang], [Hazard], there are a number of players that they will be interested in," he said of the team's transfer plans, per Sky Sports. "Soon the club will do what they normally do and put two or three names out there for people to discuss, and then everybody will know their targets."

Balague also suggested Los Blancos may be on the hunt for replacements for Alvaro Morata and Isco should either depart, as well as another player in the Casemiro mould.

It's the two forwards mentioned who will potentially quicken the pulses of Madridistas, though. Here's why Aubameyang, who has 28 goals this season, would be such an exciting acquisition:

Hazard has also been thriving at Stamford Bridge. Under manager Antonio Conte, he's been handed more freedom to influence the play high up the pitch and has left many a defender in a daze as a result.

Per WhoScored.com, opponents have found him tough to cope with:

Madrid are renowned for landing the most exciting attackers in the game, and both men have the quality to thrill the Bernabeu.

Aubameyang has previously revealed he has a desire to play for Los Blancos, per RMC (h/t The Independent), something that may work in Madrid's favour if they're to pursue him. Hazard, by contrast, may be tough to prise away, with TuttoMercatoWeb (h/t Mark Brus of Metro) reporting he's close to signing a new Chelsea contract.
