Big Show vs. Rusev: Winner and Reaction for WWE Fastlane 2017

Tyler ConwayMar 5, 2017

Rusev came into Sunday's Fastlane pay-per-view with a tag team partner and no match. Rusev left Fastlane with no tag team partner and a few extra bruises courtesy of the Big Show.

Big Show put Rusev away with three chokeslams and a knockout punch in what amounted to an impromptu match at Sunday's event, the last on The Road to WrestleMania.

The match came amid an odd setup on the preshow, where Rusev and former tag team partner Jinder Mahal broke away from one another. Rusev went to Raw general manager Mick Foley to request a singles match, saying he was tired of teaming with Mahal. That brought about Mahal, who was also going to Foley in an attempt to rejoin singles competition.

The Raw GM said both could have a match against undisclosed opponents but had to decide between themselves who would go first. That led to a ringside brawl, with Mahal knocking Rusev over the barricade and taking the first match—against Cesaro. Rusev would distract Mahal, leading to Cesaro getting the win.

Show came out as Rusev's opponent after The Bulgarian Brute beat Mahal down in retaliation. The result was mostly a squash for Big Show, who appears to be getting a little bit of a push heading into WrestleMania season.

The reviews of the segment? Uhh...not great!

Odds are we'll be seeing some form of this feud continuing Monday on Raw. Mahal and Rusev will likely go head-to-head and have themselves a mini feud on the lower card. In the hope of all things holy, Rusev will go over and return to the midcard title picture, which is in need of some extra handsomeness.

Or perhaps they'll kiss and make up after both taking L's. Either way, we all know the only reason this segment existed was to pad time before Goldberg squashes Kevin Owens in eight-and-a-half seconds in the Universal Championship match later. (Probably.)
