Former Dolphins WR P.K. Sam Says Nick Saban Cut Him for Visiting Dying Father
Former Miami Dolphins wide receiver P.K. Sam claimed Wednesday that Nick Saban cut him from the team in 2006 after Sam went to visit his dying father:
According to Michelle Kaufman of the Miami Herald, Sam was on the team's practice squad in 2006 and was cut before being reacquired at the end of the season. He was then cut again during training camp the next year, though Saban had taken over at Alabama by that time and was no longer the head coach of the Dolphins.
Saban has not commented on the claims. Per Kaufman, "The Herald left a message, but has not yet received a reply."
Sam, 33, was a fifth-round pick of the New England Patriots in the 2004 draft. He also had stints with the Cincinnati Bengals, Oakland Raiders and Buffalo Bills—though he never accumulated any regular-season stats—and spent time in the CFL.
Saban, 65, spent the 2005-06 seasons as head coach of the Dolphins, going 15-17 in his tenure.
