Parker Can't Seem to Shake Injury Bug
Parker is no longer the electric playmaker he was during his peak seasons. A 16-year career combined with the Spurs' annual trips to the postseason have taken a collective toll on his 34-year-old body. But the team figures to lean more heavily on him once the playoffs roll around.
While the four-time NBA champion has been able to avoid major injury setbacks throughout his career, he hasn't played more than 72 games in a season since the 2010-11 campaign. The most recent issue was a knee injury that forced him to miss a few games in early November.
His absences are usually a combination of minor lingering ailments and the Spurs' efforts to get their aging veterans rest during the course of a long season. Popovich likes to give his older players an occasional game off, usually in back-to-back situations.
