Haden Reportedly on the Trade Block
Monday, Oct. 31
The Browns have reportedly been in trade talks with other teams around the NFL regarding Haden, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL.com, who added: "If he shows he's healthy, this could ramp up."
Bleacher Report's Jason Cole reported Monday teams have been doing "extensive scouting" on Haden:
Haden Struggling to Regain Elite Status
Haden, 27, has struggled with groin injuries, missing three games this season. In 2015, he missed 11 games while recovering from a finger injury and a concussion. He was once considered one of the top cornerbacks in the game, but when he was on the field in 2015 he struggled, as Eric Eager of Pro Football Focus noted:
"Even before 2015, Haden's play had always been a rung or two below his reputation. In 2015, this dynamic magnified, with Haden finishing with a 32.2 overall grade before his season ended prematurely with a concussion. He allowed a near-perfect 158.2 passer rating into his coverage last season, surrendering an average of 4.8 receptions, 77.4 yards, and 0.8 touchdowns per game in his five outings. He missed more tackles (five) in 290 snaps last season than he did in 1,044 snaps in 2014.
"
Eager added that Haden's ranking among cornerbacks has steadily declined since 2010.
- 2010: PFF's No. 6 corner.
- 2011: PFF's No. 9 corner.
- 2012: PFF's No. 20 corner.
- 2013: PFF's No. 12 corner.
- 2014: PFF's No. 29 corner.
- 2015: PFF's lowest-graded corner.
Some of that decline in productivity can be chalked up to injuries, while Haden also never seemed to be a great fit in Mike Pettine's defensive scheme. And Haden has been better in 2016, registering 21 tackles and two interceptions in five games.
