Jim Harbaugh Rips Refs for Decision to Uphold Call After Replay vs. Illinois

Rob GoldbergOct 24, 2016

Michigan Wolverines head football coach Jim Harbaugh wants things to go his way, regardless of the game situation.

Michigan improved to 7-0 with a 41-8 win over the Illinois Fighting Illini on Saturday, but two days later, the coach still wanted to talk about a questionable decision by the officials in the final minutes of the game.

"I've never seen a worse call," Harbaugh said Monday, per Dan Murphy of ESPN.com. "I don't know that I've ever seen a more strange replay. Maybe there has been."

The coach was referring to what he believed was a poor spot on a third-down play that could have potentially given Michigan a first down. Despite being up 33 points with 2:34 remaining, Harbaugh challenged the spot, but the ruling was upheld.

Michigan elected to go for it on 4th-and-2 and converted the first down before taking a knee on the final three plays to run out the clock. The Wolverines held possession for the final 7:05 of the game.

While the call may have received more scrutiny in a one-possession game, Harbaugh appears to be the only one concerned following the blowout.

Possible bad calls aside, Michigan is in great shape after winning its first seven games of the year. The squad is No. 2 in the Associated Press Top 25 thanks to a defense that has allowed just 10 points per game. Only three teams have scored double-digit points against the Wolverines.

Regardless of the team's success, Harbaugh wants to make sure every play is considered important.

The Wolverines will go on the road to face the Michigan State Spartans on Saturday.
