Arsenal Transfer News: Latest Rumours on Jack Wilshere and Jose Gimenez
Sky Sports pundit Jamie Redknapp believes Jack Wilshere's Arsenal career is over, as the England international must realise he has to leave the Gunners permanently to be successful. Meanwhile, Manchester United will reportedly rival the club for Atletico Madrid's Jose Gimenez.
As reported by Sky Sports (h/t the Sun's Toby Gannon), Redknapp said Wilshere's best chance of making it back into the England national team would be away from the Emirates Stadium, a place where he has grown far too comfortable:
"I don’t see a future at Arsenal any more, I think now he will realise he has got to get away from Arsenal.
It’s too comfortable for him there. He is not going to get into the team at Arsenal regularly.
If he makes that move he can show what he is all about. No disrespect, I think he’s a step above Bournemouth, but I think it’s a great thing for him to do. He’s really putting himself out there.
"
Wilshere moved to Bournemouth on loan after several disappointing and injury-filled seasons with the Gunners and has been a standout for the Cherries. He flashed all of the talent that made him such an intriguing youngster all those years ago in the 0-0 draw against Tottenham Hotspur, his parent club's main rivals.
As shared by BBC Sport, Wilshere played the full 90 minutes in that match, something he hadn't done in a while:
A successful loan was likely what manager Arsene Wenger had in mind, giving Wilshere the chance to rediscover his form and finally get healthy again. But at this point in time, you have to wonder what benefit the 24-year-old would find in a return to north London.
Arsenal's midfield has been one of the driving forces behind the Gunners' strong start to the season, and the group has done so without Aaron Ramsey, who hasn't featured since August. Once the Welshman returns, things will become more crowded.
Wilshere will likely have a choice to make: A move to a club like Everton would give him a better chance of sticking in the starting XI and boost his bid to be a Three Lions regular, but he has been with the Gunners for a long time―he could opt to try his luck and convince Wenger he should be a starter.
Elsewhere, the Daily Mirror's John Richardson reported United are scouting Gimenez, a player the Gunners have already made enquiries about. The 21-year-old has dropped down the pecking order at Atletico Madrid, partly due to injury, and he could become available in the near future.

The Uruguay international was fantastic playing alongside compatriot Diego Godin last season and is widely regarded as a top talent. But manager Diego Simeone has mainly used Stefan Savic next to Godin this season, and per ESPN FC's Dermot Corrigan, there's another prospect waiting in the wings:
Per Richardson, the uncertainty surrounding Simeone's desire to stay at the club would be in favour of interested parties, who will be eyeing both Gimenez and Antoine Griezmann next summer.
Given Gimenez's obvious talents and his young age, Atletico's asking price would be steep. But for that, the purchasing club would get a young, powerful defender with tremendous athletic ability and range.
Here's a look at some of his highlights:
One factor to take into consideration is Atletico's upcoming transfer ban, which will see the club unable to add a replacement in the next two transfer windows, per BBC Sport. The Rojiblancos are unlikely to sanction any sale under those conditions, unless Arsenal or United pay well above Gimenez's worth.
