Terrelle Pryor Comments on Potentially Playing Quarterback for Cleveland Browns
After Wednesday, Cleveland Browns fans can no longer question wide receiver Terrelle Pryor's commitment.
The Browns are already down to Cody Kessler, their third quarterback this year, and given his experience at the position, Pryor could be an option in an emergency. Asked about whether he'd consider moving back under center, the 27-year-old underlined how far he'd go to help the team, per Cleveland.com's Mary Kay Cabot:
"I'll be starting at receiver, but you know what? For this city, for the coaching staff that worked their butts off and my teammates, I'll do anything to help us win, anything, cut my finger off, do whatever I've got to do. That's 'cause I want to win. I really want to win. Last week was devastating. We got that taste, but we got a lot of positivity and positive things out of that last week, things we could do different. But I'm willing to die on this field. I want to win. I'm all about winning, competing, and for me that's what this is about.
"
It's doubtful the Browns will need to call upon Pryor to lead the offense despite the team losing Josh McCown and Robert Griffin III. The team placed Griffin on injured reserve, while a shoulder injury will likely leave McCown out for a stretch of games.
Head coach Hue Jackson announced Wednesday that Kessler will start Sunday against the Miami Dolphins, per Nate Ulrich of the Akron Beacon Journal. On Monday, Cleveland also signed journeyman quarterback Charlie Whitehurst.
Pryor hasn't attempted a regular-season pass since the 2013 season. He has a 3-7 record in his 10 starts at quarterback, throwing for 1,953 yards, nine touchdowns and 12 interceptions. In 2013, he set the record for the longest touchdown run (93 yards) by a quarterback in a 21-18 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers.
In his first year as a wideout in 2015, Pryor appeared in three games and caught one pass for 42 yards. Through the first two weeks in 2016, the 27-year-old has six receptions for 100 yards. Football Outsiders' Cian Fahey has seen signs of improvement:
"I was wrong on Terrelle Pryor converting to WR. He looks like a legit receiver.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport (via Kevin Patra of NFL.com) reported Wednesday that the New England Patriots "have done extensive preparation" for Julian Edelman to back up Jacoby Brissett if need be. In that respect, the Browns wouldn't be alone in thinking outside the box to address the QB position by shifting Pryor around in the offense.
Should disaster strike and Kessler and Whitehurst are suddenly unavailable, at least Jackson knows he has a contingency plan.
