Newton Has Been Durable Despite Playing Style
Despite taking more hits than any other quarterback between 2011 and 2015, according to ESPN Stats & Info, Newton has been durable throughout his career. Before his latest setback, he missed only two games, both during the 2014 season, and one was because of a car accident.
Newton took multiple helmet-to-helmet shots in this season opener against the Denver Broncos, but he never left the game and put the Panthers in position to win before Graham Gano missed a 50-yard field-goal attempt with four seconds remaining.
The Panthers have an excellent defense, particularly in the front seven, but they will go only as far as Newton takes them. He is the reigning NFL MVP by virtue of being the best dual-threat quarterback in the league.
