Sean Lee, Cowboys Agree to New Contract: Latest Details, Reaction

The Dallas Cowboys have provided linebacker Sean Lee with an opportunity to make more money if he can stay on the field.

Brandon George of the Dallas Morning News explained the reworked contract:

According to Todd Archer of ESPN.com, Lee missed an escalator in his contract last season when he missed the last game with a hamstring injury.

While the opportunity to earn more money is always a positive, health has been a major concern for the Pro Bowl linebacker throughout his career. In six years since being drafted as a second-round pick out of Penn State, Lee has failed to go a single season of playing all 16 games.

He also missed the entire 2014 season with a torn ACL.

To make matters even worse, Lee is dealing with yet another knee injury to start this season. According to Jane Slater of NFL Network, the ailment kept the linebacker out of practice but isn't considered serious.

"It's something that has been bothering him the last couple days, so we've acted accordingly, and we'll take his situation day by day," head coach Jason Garrett said of the injury, per Archer.

With the Cowboys already losing quarterback Tony Romo to a back injury, the team is likely going to be even more cautious with its other star players.

When healthy, Lee is certainly an impact player as one of the top linebackers in the NFL. He tallied 128 tackles last season in just 14 games and was named the team's defensive MVP, according to David Helman of DallasCowboys.com:

If he can stay on the field for a full season, Dallas likely won't mind paying him the extra money he deserves.
