Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
Neither player had established himself during the preseason. Givens had one catch for 19 yards in Saturday's win over the Indianapolis Colts, while Randle had two catches for 10 yards.
Even with their mediocre play, it's still surprising that both are gone this early in the process.
Both receivers signed as free agents during the offseason. Givens started for the Baltimore Ravens last year, totaling 346 yards on 19 receptions in 12 games (six starts). His best year was his first with the Rams, when he finished with 42 catches for 698 yards and three touchdowns in 2012.
Randle had bigger years with the New York Giants, finishing with 938 yards on 71 catches in 2014 and following that up with 57 catches for 797 yards and eight touchdowns last season. Despite the solid numbers, the 25-year-old receiver was disappointed with his performance.
"I just tried to make as many plays as possible with the opportunities that I had," Randle said in January, per Tom Rock of Newsday. "I wish I could have done more. I’m not really satisfied with the year that I did have. I’m just going to try to get better."
While it seemed as though he would have a chance at a fresh start on a team thin at receiver, he will have to keep looking for a good fit.
As for the Eagles, Jordan Matthews remains a quality option as a go-to target, but there will be question marks about the rest of the receiving corps. Josh Huff and Nelson Agholor return after combining for 50 catches in 2015, while recently acquired Dorial Green-Beckham will also play a major role.
