Randy Bullock to Giants: Latest Contract Details, Comments and Reaction

Timothy RappAug 22, 2016

The New York Giants signed kicker Randy Bullock on Monday, the team announced in a press release.

The Giants waived kicker Tom Obarski in a corresponding move.

Bullock is expected to sign a one-year deal with the team, per Mike Garafolo of NFL.com. The Giants have Josh Brown on their roster at kicker, but the NFL suspended him for one game on Friday.

Bullock, 26, has had stints with the Houston Texans and New York Jets in his career. Between the two teams last season, he finished 19-of-23 on field goals and 22-of-25 on extra points.

It will be fascinating to see which player wins the starting position following Brown's suspension. Bullock will have at least one advantage in the competition, per Ryan Smith of Pro Football Focus:

On the other hand, the Giants have already made a financial commitment to Brown, according to Tom Pelissero of USA Today:

On Tuesday, Bullock told reporters he was told by the Giants he was brought in to compete with Brown for the starting job.

Brown was 30-of-32 on field goals in 2015, hitting 11 of his 13 attempts from 40-plus yards out, while also going 44-of-45 on extra points. In his three seasons with the Giants, Brown has missed just seven field goals on 84 attempts, so he appears to hold the upper hand in the field-goal and extra-point departments.

Regardless, Bullock's signing fills an immediate need for Week 1 and will give the team options in the kicking game in Week 2 and beyond if he wins the job
