Smart Comments on Chubb's Injury
Wednesday, Sept. 28
"Right now, he's in a boot trying to keep the pressure off it," Georgia head coach Kirby Smart said on Tuesday, via Wilson Alexander of the Red & Black. "He's doing some light running."
Smart told reporters on Sept. 24 that Chubb suffered a sprained ankle, although he was unsure of the severity of the injury, per Jason Butt of the Telegraph.
Chubb's Brilliance Tarnished by Injuries
The past two seasons for Chubb have been marred by injuries. He appeared in just six games last season for Georgia after tearing his PCL, among other knee ligaments, in a contest against Tennessee in October. That cost him the rest of the season and put his status for the 2016 campaign in doubt, though he was able to return to action this season.
Despite appearing in just six games last year, Chubb still rushed for 747 yards and seven touchdowns. He got off to a great start in 2016, with 222 yards and two touchdowns against North Carolina in the season opener, but he had just 143 yards and one touchdown on 39 carries in the next two games coming into the Ole Miss game.
Injuries were a major concern for Georgia heading into the season, as star backup Sony Michel suffered a broken forearm in the offseason. With Michel and Chubb back in action, though, Georgia has a one-two punch it can lean on until both running backs are 100 percent.
