College Football's Midnight at the Oasis

BabyTateSenior Writer IOctober 3, 2009

Midnight at the Oasis.

Ah, the very thought conjures up images of the most relaxing and wonderful times. A place where one may recharge the batteries, and gain strength for the upcoming journey.

There are few experiences as enjoyable to college football fans as the Friday night before a highly anticipated game. To relax after a hard week, allowing the mind to drift among less stressful memories, and ponder the excitement of what may come to pass.

Let's challenge the image of relaxed memories and take a trip to the wonderland known as the world of college football trivia.

1. Believe It Or Not

This Ole Miss quarterback was part of the last SEC Championship team of the Rebels in 1963 before becoming a world famous and Grammy nominated songwriter.

Although he was the leader of a football team during the most intense social times, he later penned the huge R&B hits "Midnight Train To Georgia", "Neither One Of Us (Wants to be The First To Say Goodbye)", and "(You're) The Best Thing That Ever Happened To Me" for Gladys Knight and The Pips in the 1970s.

Who is he?

2. True or False?

Southern California's OJ. Simpson is not the only Heisman Trophy winner to serve time in prison. LSU's heralded 1959 winner Billy Cannon spent three years in the Federal "Big House With Many Windows" for his counterfeit money scheme and Nebraska's 1972 winner Johnny Rodgers did six months for assault with a firearm.

3. Sooner Or Later

Oklahoma never won a Bowl game until after the Second World War when the Sooners defeated N.C. State in the Gator Bowl. In what bowl game did OU claim their most recent postseason win and who did they defeat?

4. Fit To Be Tied

The last college football national championship before the arrival of the BCS in the 1998 season was shared by which two teams?

5. That Can't Be True

The last head coach of Notre Dame before Charlie Weis was Kent Baer. True or false.

6. Just Keepin' It Real

In their last 10 Bowl games Georgia are 8-2 and Florida are 4-6. Of the three teams listed, which is the only school without a winning record in their last 10 Bowl games: Southern California, Alabama, or Nebraska?

7. Double Down Time On The Lucky Seven

The Duke Blue Devils have seven ACC championships, so does N.C. State. UNC have five and Virginia Tech three. Miami has zero. What school has the most ACC championships with 13 titles?

8. Ain't It Great To Finally Be At No. 8?

Among the following coaches, who has the highest career winning percentage coming into the 2009 season?

Mack Brown

Nick Saban

Lou Holtz

Frank Beamer

Jim Donnan

Rich Rodriguez

Vince Dooley

Pat Dye
