Full Predictions for John Cena vs. AJ Styles, The Club at WWE Battleground 2016
As John Cena and AJ Styles look to destroy each other at WWE Battleground 2016, they will elevate their allies in the process. Styles' cronies, The Club, and Cena's new comrades, Enzo Amore and Big Cass, will surge with momentum as role players in this unfolding drama.
For weeks, Cena has collided with The Club alone, continually on the wrong end of an unwinnable three-on-one fight. That changed in a flash on Monday's Raw.
Styles, Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson took turns clocking Cena, a familiar sight at this point. Amore and Cass, though, came charging in to strike back against the heels.
WWE wasted no time in announcing afterward that these six men were now set to meet at the Battleground pay-per-view:
The bout allows WWE to hold off on the Cena vs. Styles rematch, as well as provide a stage for both The Club and The Realest Guys in the Room to flourish. Count on those four men making the most of their opportunities and advancing by association.
Amore and Big Cass Will Get a Big Boost
Considering the surplus of choices it had, WWE going with Amore and Cass as Cena's cavalry speaks loudly about the newcomers' places in the company.
It has been a struggle to stand out for the group that invaded the main roster from NXT after WrestleMania. Apollo Crews has yet to establish himself. The Vaudevillains haven't been a runaway hit, either.
And now Amore and Cass are heading into a high-profile matchup with a future Hall of Famer on their squad. As former referee Jimmy Korderas noted, joining Cena's side gives them the proverbial rub:
That will only increase when Amore and Cena deliver a promo together or when the leader of Cenation talks up his new friends.
During the path to the PPV, WWE is sure to have The Realest Guys in the Room go up against The Club in a variety of matches. When it ends up being Amore vs. Styles or Big Cass vs. The Phenomenal One, those rookie babyfaces are going to benefit in a big way.
Styles has killed it against just about everyone WWE has thrown at him this year—from The Miz to Chris Jericho to Sami Zayn to Roman Reigns. When Amore and Cass get their one-on-one shots at him, they are both destined to produce their best singles matches to date.
Win or lose at Battleground, that will prove invaluable.
The Club Will Get Its Shots
The buildup to Battleground will be filled with images of Cena on his back. Amore and Cass will be there to interrupt attacks from The Club, but count on WWE selling fans on how dominant and dangerous this crew is.
It would be anticlimactic for Cass, Cena and Amore to chase off the heels for weeks and then get the victory at Battleground. Expect the story to be more of an uphill climb for the fan favorites.
The Club has pounced on Cena many times already. Ambushes, backstage brawls and any sort of unfair advantage the trio can get is going to happen over and over until July 24.
Fans will pine to see the heels get their comeuppance. The babyfaces' win will be that much sweeter as a result. That's Pro Wrestling Booking 101, and it's set to be what WWE leans on in this rivalry.
Savagery and chaos will be key to boosting The Club as villains. And so will pitting Gallows and Anderson against The Realest Guys in the Room. As Sean Rueter of Cageside Seats wrote of WWE booking this match, "It will help get a heel reaction on Styles and company, because nobody is booing Zo and Cass right now."
Winner
Team Cena will best The Club at Battleground.
The six-man format will allow someone other than Styles or Cena to take the fall here. It will also have Cena score a victory without hurting Styles' momentum.
WWE fans have seen Cena lose the first PPV battle only to follow that with win after win. Kevin Owens and Rusev suffered that fate in the last two years. The Phenomenal One is on a different trajectory, though.
Since arriving on the WWE stage in January, it's been clear that he's a megastar, one of the talents the company has to highlight as it marches into its New Era.
With that in mind, expect Styles to win more than he loses against the often unbeatable Cena. But that won't happen at Battleground. This precursor to their Money in the Bank rematch will end with Cena getting his lone triumph of the narrative.
He will pin Gallows or Anderson to keep the feud feeling even, setting up a rubber match of sorts in the form of Cena vs. Styles II.
Post-Battleground Fallout
The safest bet surrounding this feud is that Battleground will set up SummerSlam.
Cena and Styles colliding once more is on the way. WWE will be hungry to see them go at it again and try to top their instant classic at Money in the Bank. So this six-man tag bout is a transitional tool, a bridge to cross over Battleground and into summer's biggest wrestling event.

That will be where Styles takes down Cena without The Club's help, avenging his team's loss at Battleground and cementing himself as a top-tier star after just half a year with WWE.
As for the rest of the warriors in the upcoming six-man matchup, they will break off from this main narrative to create their own.
Amore and Big Cass will continue to feud with The Club after Battleground. It will be the best rivalry either team has had thus far. After Cena and Styles kick-start their momentum, the two sets of enemies will shine on their own.
Both teams will need rivalries to work with, and with this one starting off so hot, WWE will want to continue to exploit it.
A star-making story awaits, with lovable underdogs matching up against brooding bruisers.
