Liverpool Transfer News: Robert Lewandowski Move Possible, Latest Reds Rumours

Christopher SimpsonJun 16, 2016

Bayern Munich forward Robert Lewandowski would reportedly be interested in a move to Liverpool were they to qualify for the UEFA Champions League.

According to the Daily Mail's Ian Ladyman, the striker is "growing increasingly unsettled" in Germany and would be open to joining a Premier League outfit.

Further, he is a "boyhood Liverpool fan" and "is also interested in teaming up" with former mentor Jurgen Klopp "if and when" the Reds return to Europe's elite competition.

The Poland international had an incredible campaign with Bayern as they romped to their fourth successive Bundesliga title. He netted 42 goals in all competitions, including an almost unprecedented tally in the league, per BT Sport's Archie Rhind-Tutt:

Here are all 30 league goals, racked up in just 32 appearances:

The 27-year-old's goalscoring exploits virtually grant him his pick of any club in world football. According to Ladyman, joining Real Madrid is his "dream move," but he recognises that unless Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema or Gareth Bale were to leave, a switch to the Santiago Bernabeu is unlikely.

While the idea of Lewandowski joining Liverpool at this moment in time is almost inconceivable—even with the prospect of reuniting with Klopp—it's not beyond the realms of possibility he'd join were they to establish themselves as a regular Champions League side once again.

The Reds have a long way to go for that to happen, though, and in the meantime he'll either continue to pick up silverware in Munich or make a sensational move to another elite European club, so it won't happen any time soon if it ever does.

Meanwhile, Liverpool are reportedly "ready to accept" a £5.5 million offer from Fenerbahce for Martin Skrtel, per the Liverpool Echo's James Pearce. The Daily Mail's Dominic King reported a similar scenario, and he expects it to go through:

The Slovakia international arrived at Anfield in 2008 and has served the club well over the years, but he has become increasingly unreliable in recent times.

Football writers Karl Matchett and Dave O'Connell were unsurprised when the 31-year-old almost gave away a penalty against Wales in their opening match at UEFA Euro 2016:

Liverpool's defence has been a real weakness in the side for some time, and improvements are needed there this summer.

Not only will new personnel be needed, but players will have to be sold to make room. Skrtel is the prime candidate, and at £5.5 million Liverpool can receive a healthy sum for his services.
