Draymond Green Not Suspended for Game 3 Flagrant Foul: Latest Comments, Reaction
The Golden State Warriors can breathe a sigh of relief.
Although Draymond Green was assessed a flagrant-1 foul after kicking Oklahoma City Thunder center Steven Adams in the groin midway through the second quarter of Sunday night's 133-105 blowout loss, the NBA decided on Mondayย that it won't suspend Golden State's linchpin for his actions.ย
Adrian Wojnarowski of The Vertical first broke the news, and USA Today'sย Sam Amick confirmed the report, adding the league will fine Green and upgrade the offense to a flagrant-2 foul.ย
Fred Katz of the Norman Transcript provided the league's official statement:
"I thought it was inadvertent," Warriors head coach Steve Kerr said, according toย Shane Youngย of Today's Fastbreak. "Things like that happen all the time."
Green, of course, agreed with Kerr.
"I don't know how anybody could say I did that on purpose regardless of how it looks," he said, per the Bay Area News Group's Marcus Thompson.
Bleacher Report's Kevin Ding provided another key sound bite from Golden State's combo forward:ย
With Game 3 and Green's accompanying actions in the rearview mirror, the Warriors can shift their focus toward a must-win Game 4 on Tuesday. While that may sound extreme on the surface, given how explosive Golden State has been all season long, it's worth noting teams that have seized 3-1 series leads in the best-of-seven format have advanced 96.1 percent of the time, per WhoWins.com.ย
However, the Warriors can take solace in one significant fact: Counting their 118-91 Game 2 win, the defending champions are now 12-0 in contests following a loss this season, including playoffs.ย
Taking down a Thunder team that has outscored opponents by 15.6 points per 100 possessions on its home floor during the playoffs will be a tall task, but the Warriors have proved in the past they have the resilient mindset necessary to put crippling losses on the backburner.ย
