Miami Heat vs. Toronto Raptors: Live Score, Analysis for Game 5

Jared JohnsonMay 11, 2016

The Toronto Raptors hung on for a 99-91 win over the Miami Heat on Wednesday night to take a 3-2 series lead in their Eastern Conference semifinal series. DeMar DeRozan and Kyle Lowry combined for 59 points to lead the team to victory.

Miami made things much more interesting in the fourth quarter than they originally appeared to be, as the team cut the deficit to one point with less than two minutes remaining after trailing by as many as 20 points in the first half. Toronto completely lost its offensive flow for most of the second half and the Heat countered with timely shot-making and great bench play.

In the end, though, it was too much DeRozan and Lowry. The two had been struggling most of the series, but not Wednesday night. DeRozan shot 11-of-22 and made all 11 of his free throws to score 34 points, while Lowry totaled 28 points, 10 rebounds and six assists while accumulating a plus-minus of plus-25. Lowry also hit two big baskets in the final minute to stretch out the Raptors' lead.

No player on the Heat stood out as particularly excellent, but Dwyane Wade had a solid second half and ended with 20 points. Miami's bench was key on both ends of the floor, tallying 43 points and playing strong defense as a whole.

Both teams lost small forwards to left wrist injuries in this contest, with Luol Deng exiting for the Heat and DeMarre Carroll leaving for the Raptors. The Heat Twitter account announced that X-rays on Deng were inconclusive, while TSN Sports' Josh Lewenberg reported that Carroll's X-ray was negative.

Game 6 will be in Miami on Friday at 9 p.m. ET, where the Raptors will try to close out the Heat.
