Floyd Mayweather Says He Started Conor McGregor Fight Rumors
Floyd Mayweather Jr. revealed you have him to thank for the Conor McGregor fight rumors.
In a video uploaded Saturday from FightHype.com, Mayweather said all rumors about a possible boxing match against the current UFC featherweight champion have come from his camp.
"It's possible," Mayweather said, per FightHype.com. "There was a name that was shot at me. But the rumors that y'all have been hearing [are] the rumors I started. It may not be a rumor. Keep your fingers crossed."

James Beal and Matt Heath-Smith of the Sun reported a potential Mayweather and McGregor megafight on Friday, saying both parties have discussed a match in Las Vegas later this summer.
However, UFC President Dana White quickly squashed the Sun's report by telling Yahoo Sports' Kevin Iole, "It's not true; it's just a tabloid story. And as far as I knew, Floyd is retired, and he's been on a worldwide vacation and hasn't even been thinking of fighting."
White also told Lance Pugmire of the Los Angeles Times the fight would be hard to make because the UFC is McGregor's promoter.
McGregor responded Sunday via Twitter with a photoshopped image of him and the 49-0 Mayweather, with the Dublin native seemingly wanting this fight to happen:
Mayweather said if such a fight were to happen, he would command a nine-figure amount for it because he feels he's earned it.
"Every time I go out there and compete, my number is, of course, $100 million or better," Mayweather said, via FightHype.com. "I feel I can demand that."
A McGregor-Mayweather fight may never happen for as long as McGregor is under contract with the UFC, but his current situation with White and the organization makes the potential fight intriguing. McGregor was scheduled to fight Nate Diaz at UFC 200 on July 9. His decision to retire and then un-retire is an issue White will need to continue to address until McGregor is back in the Octagon.
Mayweather's comments indicate he wants to come back and go for 50-0 but at the right price. While the fight is highly unlikely, McGregor would be the opponent who brings in that nine-figure number for Mayweather to come back one more time.
