Week Four Fantasy Football Start and Sit

Kevin RobertsSep 29, 2009

Brett Favre and Mark Sanchez further established themselves as, at the very worst, fantasy roster candidates. While normally "sure-fire" performers like Clinton Portis and Thomas Jones bombed.

And what was with Willie Parker finally playing well and scoring a touchdown the very week I tell you to sit him? I swear, that guy has it out for me.

Regardless, it's time to put your team's fate back in my hands, this time with some picks I truly feel cannot fail you.

Without further haste, here's a look at who is fine, who isn't worth a dime, and who else is vying for a try.

Start

Julius Jones, RB, Seattle Seahawks

The only week Jones hasn't lit up was against a solid 49ers squad. But he posted over 100 total yards and a score in each of his other two games.

And last week was against Chicago.

Jones is going up against an Indianapolis defense that just lost Dwight Freeney for 2-3 weeks, and could still have several other key defenders missing time.

Expect the unexpected: a shoot-out between the Seahawks and Colts, with Jones topping 100 total yards, yet again.

Prediction: 18 att, 112 yds, one TD, three rec, 29 yds, 0 TD

Glen Coffee, RB, San Francisco 49ers

Coffee wasn't exactly served a recipe for success with an average passing game and an opponent in the Minnesota Vikings' run defense.

Still, Frank Gore's ankle will keep him off the field for at least three weeks, which should give almost all the carries to your new main man, Coffee.

A matchup with the St. Louis Rams doesn't hurt, either.

Prediction: 24 att, 116 yds, one TD, four rec, 26 yds, 0 TD

Santana Moss, WR, Washington Redskins

Sure, Washington lost to the Lions and is facing a must-win situation. But that has nothing to do with Santana Moss. He was the only Redskins player last Sunday that actually earned his paycheck, and with a nice matchup against the awful Tampa Bay defense, there's no reason to think he can't wow you for a second consecutive week.

Prediction: seven rec, 120 yds, two TD

Cedric Benson, RB, Cincinnati Bengals

When Benson starts tearing up the Pittsburg Steelers, you know he's for real. And correct me if I'm wrong, but the 2-1 Bengals are actually running a fairly well-balanced offense.

Expect Benson to be a big part of the Bengals crushing the Browns in week four.

Prediction: 25 att, 146 yds, one TD, two rec, 10 yds, 0 TD

Jay Cutler, QB, Chicago Bears

Ever since his horrible Chicago debut, Cutler has been nothing but gravy. He may not put up Drew Brees numbers, but you can definitely hope for something in between that and Jason Campbell's production last week.

Cutler is coming into his own, just as Devin Hester is establishing himself as a legit NFL receiver. On that thought, throw Hester in as your WR3 this week, as he's a strong candidate to do a "Santana Moss" all over Detroit's secondary.

Prediction: 22-30, 321 yds, three TD, one INT

Sit

Ryan Grant, RB, Green Bay Packers

Grant's production has been getting better, but the fact that John Kuhn stole a one-yard plunge and another receiving touchdown, well, it doesn't help Grant's cause.

Neither does facing Minnesota's stingy front four on Monday night.

Sit Grant, because even though he will probably get the carries, the production just won't be there.

Prediction: 16 att, 47 yds, 0 TD, three rec, 17 yd, 0 TD

Tom Brady, QB, New England Patriots

Brady out-shined Matt Ryan last week, but just barely. The real story was about Fred Taylor and the ground game.

With a matchup against the aggressive Baltimore Ravens, you can't really expect Brady and co. to suddenly put on their 2007 masks and make a fantasy killing, can you?

Prediction: 25-45, 274 yds, one TD, two INT
